Norway's Thorstensen, England's Allsebrook add their names to the leaderboard in Florence

    Italian Amedeo Spada holds onto the lead in qualifying after 18 of 30 squads; cut for 38th place is 1171 (195.17 average)

    2012EBT17HeidiThorstensen.jpg2012EBT18JoAllsebrook.jpgWomen national team members Heidi Thorstensen (pictured left) of Norway and Jo Allsebrook (right) of England topped the 17th qualifying squad in the 1st Florence International en route to leap into third and fifth place in the overall qualifying standings Wednesday afternoon at Crazy Bowling in Florence, Italy.

    Thorstensen, currently tied for eighth place in the European Bowling Tour women's point ranking, had games of 235, 256, 211, 199, 214 and 191 for 1306 scratch, an average of 217.67, and added 48 pins handicap (eight pins per game) for 1354 total.

    2012EBT18AmedeoSpada.jpg2012EBT18SaverioTuccimei.jpgAmedeo Spada (left) of Italy continued to lead the 221-player field, 198 men and 23 women, from 14 countries with 1470 and an average of 245. His fellow countryman Saverio Tuccimei (right) remained in second place with 1373 (228.83).

    Allsebrook rebounded from a slow start with games of 226, 212 and 225 for 1245 scratch and 1293 including handicap, good for fifth place overall.

    Sandwiched between Thorstensen and Allsebrook is fourth place Stavros Parasakis of Greece with 1337.

    2012EBT18GianpieroCoppola.jpg2012EBT18LisanneBreeschoten.jpgSpada, Thorstensen, Allsebrook and eighth place Diego Biolghini (1266) of Italy were atop a separate leaderboard of Squads 10 to 18 which guarantees them a spot in Sunday's finals if any of them doesn't finish in the top 38.

    Dante Di Donfrancesco of Italy is currently "on the bubble" with 1171 and an average of 195.17. Gianpiero Coppola (left) was the lone player of Squad 18 who averaged over 200 to move into 19th place with 1210 (201.67), just six pins ahead of Dutch Lisanne Breeschoten (right), who totaled 1204 in Squad 17.

    Qualifying continues Thursday, Nov. 8 with Squads 19-21 scheduled for 2, 5.30 and 9 p.m. CET.

    2012FlorenceInternationalLogo.jpg The Florence International is the 18th and penultimate event of the 2012 European Bowling Tour and the last of seven EBT "Satellite" tournaments this season. Players will compete for total prize fund of 29.960 Euro with 5.500 € going to the winner while the runner-up receives 2.800 €.

    The qualifying of the Florence International runs from Saturday, Nov. 3 through Saturday, Nov. 10 and concludes with Squad 30 scheduled for 6.30 p.m. local time (CET). Women receive 8 pins handicap each game, a standard on the European Bowling Tour.

    A total of 50 players will qualify for the finals on Sunday, Nov. 11:
    • the top 38 players from the overall qualifying standings
    • four players each from the leader boards of Nov. 3-4 squads and Nov. 5-7 squads
    • and the top 4 of the one-game Desperado Squad

    The top 8 qualifiers receive three byes, players in 9th to 16th place earn two byes and places 17 to 30 bypass the first round of the finals. The remaining 20 players bowl four games scratch with the top 10 meeting the qualifiers 17-30 in Round 2. The top 8 advance to the first round of single-elimination match play.

    In each round the highest seeded player meets the lowest seeded player, the second highest player meets the second lowest player etc. All matches are two-games, total pins format. The field will be trimmed to 16, 8, 4 and then two players, who will determine the champion.

    2012EBTLogo_small.jpg The 2012 European Bowling Tour is made up of 19 events in 16 countries including two Platinum, four Gold, six Silver and seven Satellite tournaments.

    The top 50 men and the top 50 women in each event earn ranking points based on how they finish in the event. The winner of a Platinum tournament receives 250 ranking points, the winner of a Gold tournament gets 150, the winner of a Silver tournament earns 100, and the winner of a Satellite tournament such as the Florence International gets 50 ranking points.

    Those points will be tabulated throughout the season to determine the top 16 men and top 16 women who will compete in the sixth EBT Masters in Bratislava, Slovakia in Sept. 2013.
