Four bowlers found their way on to the leaderboard at Florence International

    Daniel Vezis, Marek Talpa, Joakim Wahlgren and Samuli Tiainen move into top 7 in Friday's qualifying squads; cut for 38th place is 1231 (205.17 average)

    2012EBT18DanielVezis.jpg2012EBT18MarekTalpa.jpgDaniel Vezis (pictured left) of England and Marek Talpa (right) of Czech Republic led all players in Friday's qualifying squads 23 to 26 (22 has been cancelled) en route to leap into second and fourth place in the overall qualifying standings of the 1st Florence International underway at Crazy Bowling in Florence, Italy.

    Heading into the final qualifying day, Amedeo Spada of Italy leads the 180-player field from 22 countries with 1470 six-game total and an average of 245.

    Vezis, a two-handed player, became the second player who surpassed the 1400-mark as he rolled games of 255, 222, 257, 223, 214 and 249 in Squad 23 to position himself in second place with 1420 (236.67).

    Talpa was 45 pins behind Vezis with 1375 including a high game of 276 to move into fourth place 17 pins behind third place Martin Paulsson of Sweden with 1392.

    Samuli Tiainen (right) of Finland led his second squad (24) with 1362 and improved his 1296 total from Squad 21 by 66 pins to leap from 10th to seventh place in the overall standings. Rounding out the top 8 is Heidi Thorstensen of Norway, who is the best of 32 women in the field and best of seven women in the top 38 with 1354 including 48 pins handicap.

    With 26 out of 30 qualifying squads in the books, Renato Bortolon (below right) of Italy holds the 38th and last place to advance with 1231 or an average of 205.17.

    Qualifying concludes on Saturday, Nov. 10 with Squads 27-30 scheduled for 8 and 11.30 a.m., 3 and 6.30 p.m. CET and the single-game Desperado Squad slated for 9.45 p.m.

    2012FlorenceInternationalLogo.jpg 2012EBT11RenatoBortolon.jpgThe Florence International is the 18th and penultimate event of the 2012 European Bowling Tour and the last of seven EBT "Satellite" tournaments this season. Players will compete for total prize fund of 29.960 Euro with 5.500 € going to the winner while the runner-up receives 2.800 €.

    The qualifying of the Florence International runs from Saturday, Nov. 3 through Saturday, Nov. 10 and concludes with Squad 30 scheduled for 6.30 p.m. local time (CET). Women receive 8 pins handicap each game, a standard on the European Bowling Tour.

    A total of 50 players will qualify for the finals on Sunday, Nov. 11:
    • the top 38 players from the overall qualifying standings
    • four players each from the leader boards of Nov. 3-4 squads and Nov. 5-7 squads
    • and the top 4 of the one-game Desperado Squad

    The top 8 qualifiers receive three byes, players in 9th to 16th place earn two byes and places 17 to 30 bypass the first round of the finals. The remaining 20 players bowl four games scratch with the top 10 meeting the qualifiers 17-30 in Round 2. The top 8 advance to the first round of single-elimination match play.

    In each round the highest seeded player meets the lowest seeded player, the second highest player meets the second lowest player etc. All matches are two-games, total pins format. The field will be trimmed to 16, 8, 4 and then two players, who will determine the champion.

    2012EBTLogo_small.jpg The 2012 European Bowling Tour is made up of 19 events in 16 countries including two Platinum, four Gold, six Silver and seven Satellite tournaments.

    The top 50 men and the top 50 women in each event earn ranking points based on how they finish in the event. The winner of a Platinum tournament receives 250 ranking points, the winner of a Gold tournament gets 150, the winner of a Silver tournament earns 100, and the winner of a Satellite tournament such as the Florence International gets 50 ranking points.

    Those points will be tabulated throughout the season to determine the top 16 men and top 16 women who will compete in the sixth EBT Masters in Bratislava, Slovakia in Sept. 2013.
