Guldbaek, Lalisang, Al-Hassan add their names to the leaderboard in Qatar

    Squad 6-8 leaders move into the top 9 Tuesday; Hareb Al-Mansoori holds on to the lead; cut for 36th place is now 1208 (201.33 average)

The UAE bowler leads a field of 86 bowlers, 79 men and seven women, from 19 countries with 1371 six-game series and an average of 228.50.

    Aumi Guerra (right) of the Dominican Republic remained in second place with 1356 total including 48 pins women's handicap.

    Moving into third, fourth and fifth place on the third day of competition were squad leaders Shaker Al-Hassan, UAE; Ryan Lalisang, Indonesia; and John Guldbaek, Denmark.

    2012EBT19ShakerAlHassan.jpg2011KSAORyanLalisang3.jpgAl-Hassan (left) rolled games of 278, 210, 184, 234, 207 and 242 in Squad 8 to leap into third place with 1355 and an average of 225.83 en route to receive a 200 Euro bonus for the highest six-game series of the day.

    Guldbaek and Lalisang (right) both had 1343 series in Squad 6 and 7. Lalisang, who finished the block with 264 and 232, was seeded fourth due to the higher last game. Guldbaek, who rebounded from a slow start with 267 and 256, closed out his set with 226 and 223 to overtake fifth place.

    By virtue of finishing 1, 2, 3 on a separate leaderboard of squads 6-8, Al-Hassan, Lalisang and Guldbaek are automatically qualified for the finals. If they will finish in the top 36, the players on that list will take advantage. These were the last three of eight "wildcards" given in the tournament.

    Rounding out the top 9, who will receive one bye for the finals, is currently Hussain Al-Suwaidi, UAE, with 1319 or an average of 219.83. Mansoor Al-Awamy is the top Qatari in 12th place with 1302.

    Five of seven women in the tournament so far are above the cut line. Joining Guerra and Pöppler were Danes Pia Burkal (10th; 1316), Sascha Wedel (13th; 1295) and Randi B. Christensen (20th; 1267).

    With eight of 17 qualifying squads concluded, Khalill Aqil of Jordan, holds the 36th and last place to make the first cut with 1208 total and an average of 201.33.

    Qualifying continues Wednesday, Dec. 12 with Squads 9-11 scheduled for noon, 4 and 8 p.m. Arabia Standard Time.

    2012EBT19QatarOpenLogo.jpg The 12th Qatar Bowling Open is the 19th and last event of the 2012 European Bowling Tour and one of only two EBT "Platinum" tournaments this season. The tournament will be held from Dec. 9-15, 2012 at 32-lane Qatar Bowling Center in Doha, Qatar.

    Players will compete for total prize fund of 125.000 Euro (approx. $163,000) with 30.000 € going to the winner, 14.400 € to the runner-up and 5.000 € apiece to the third and fourth place finishers.

    As the 12th Qatar Bowling Open is also the second event of the 2013 World Bowling Tour, the tournament will also award a PBA international title if won by a PBA member or a PBA international member.

    Qualifying (6 games, unlimited re-entries) runs from Sunday, Dec. 9 through Friday, Dec. 14 with the final Squad 17 scheduled to start at 8 p.m. Arabia Standard Time (6 p.m. CET; noon EST). Qualifying will conclude with the one-game Desperado Squad slated for 11 p.m. Women receive 8 pins handicap each game, a standard on the European Bowling Tour.

    A total of 48 players - the top 36 in the overall qualifying standings, the top 2 of the Dec. 9 squads, the top 3 each of the Dec. 10 and 11 squads, plus the top 4 from the Desperado Squad - advance to the finals on Saturday, Dec. 15, 2012.

    The top 9 qualifiers earn one bye. The remaining 39 players will bowl six games scratch with the top 19 advancing to the second round. Those 19 and the nine qualifying leaders will roll another six-game block scratch to cut to the top 4, who advance to the semifinals.

    The No. 1 bowls No. 4 and the No. 2 bowls No. 3 with the two-game total pinfall determining the winner. The two semifinal winners will bowl for the title and the 30.000 Euro top prize.

    2012EBTLogo_small.jpg The 2012 European Bowling Tour is made up of 19 events in 16 countries including two Platinum, four Gold, six Silver and seven Satellite tournaments.

    The top 50 men and the top 50 women in each event earn ranking points based on how they finish in the event. The winner of a Platinum tournament such as the Qatar Bowling Open receives 250 ranking points, the winner of a Gold tournament gets 150, the winner of a Silver tournament earns 100, and the winner of a Satellite tournament gets 50 ranking points.

    Those points will be tabulated throughout the season to determine the top 16 men and top 16 women who will compete in the sixth EBT Masters in Bratislava, Slovakia in Sept. 2013.
