Shaker Al-Hassan concludes 2012 ABF Tour regular season with victory in Saudi Arabia

    Indonesia's Ryan Lalisang and Macau's Julia Lam win the Tour's point ranking; lead the top 16 men and women into the Tournament of Champions March 11-12 in Kuwait

    2012ABFT08ShakerAlHassan.jpgShaker Al-Hassan (pictured left), UAE, topped Salem Al-Hajras of Kuwait, 175-150, in an all-lefty final to win the last tournament of the 2012 Asian Bowling Federation Tour regular season Saturday at Universal Bowling Center in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. Al-Hassan received 75 ranking points for the victory en route to qualify for the Tournament of Champions in March 2013.

    The title match produced the lowest score of a low-scoring event. Salem Al-Hajras started with back-to-back open frames and added a third one in the sixth frame, while Al-Hassan alternated spares and strikes to hold a comfortable 45-in lead.

    When Al-Hassan suffered back-to-back open frames in frames 7 and 8, Al-Hajras narrowed the gap with a spare and a strike but a split in the ninth frame which resulted in another open sealed his fate.

    In the semifinals, Al-Hassan eliminated Mohammed Janahi of Bahrain, 191-156, while Al-Hajras' match against Joshua Chow, a lefty from Hong Kong, went into overtime after a 174-174 tie. Al-Hajras struck on his first two balls in the 9th and 10th frame roll-off, to escape with a 49-40 win.

    Eight of the 14 finalists in Riyadh made the top 16 in the Tour's point ranking en route to qualify for the TOC.

    2011ABFT07RyanLalisang.jpgRyan Lalisang (left) of Indonesia, who fell to Janahi in the opening round, 185-191, earned 20 points to overtake previous ranking leader Wu Siu Hong of Hong Kong by 13 pins en route to win the 2012 ABF Tour ranking with 197 points. Wu, who did not compete in the final event, fell to second place with 184 points.

    Joining Lalisang in the TOC from the Saudi Arabia finalists were Yousif Falah of Bahrain (T5th, 166), Al-Hassan (T9th, 125), Chow (10th, 124), Janahi (11th, 117.5), Rickle Kam, Hong Kong (13th, 110), Masoud Saberi, Bahrain (15th, 107) and Kuwait's Jassem Darwish, who took the 16th and last spot with 101 points.

    2012BWCJuliaLam.jpgThe 2012 ABFT women's ranking was already decided in the previous leg in Indonesia at the Saudi Arabia leg was for men only like the first, second and fourth events in Bahrain, Kuwait and Egypt.

    Julia Lam (right) of Macau finished atop the women's rankings featuring four events in Thailand, Hong Kong, Macau and Indonesia with total 105 points. Putty Armein of Indonesia was second with 100.5 points with Hong Kong's Milki Ng in third place with 99 points.

    ABFTourLogo_small.jpg The ABF Tour Saudi Arabia leg was held on Saturday, Dec. 22, at Universal Bowling Center in Riyadh following the 6th Kingdom of Saudi International Open, which served as the qualifying event. The top 16 Asian bowlers from the finals standings advanced to the last event of the regular ABFT season.

    The 2012 ABF Tour consisted of eighth tournaments - four in the Middle East, all without a women's division, and four in East Asia, all including a women's division.

    Bowlers earned ranking points based on how they finished in each event. Those points were tabulated throughout the season to determine the top 16 men and top 16 women who will qualify for the ABF Tour Tournament of Champions, which will be held March 11-12, 2013 at Cozmo Bowling Center in Kuwait.
