Dominic Barrett sets the tone in Squad B at H.H. Emir's Cup 2013

    Englishman averages 246.50 to take the lead and to win the daily High Series award with 1972

    The PBA champion and 2012 European Bowling Tour point ranking winner rolled games of 195, 231, 245, 279, 286, 268, 213 and 255 for 1972 to earn the daily High Series award, worth $200.

    Mika Koivuniemi (right) of Finland, a two-time PBA Player of the Year and the first runner-up in the 2012 European Bowling Tour point ranking, was 111 pins behind Barrett with 1861 (232.63).

Fourth place belonged to Barrett's fellow countryman and three-time EBT point ranking winner, Paul Moor (right), who toppled 1781 pins (222.63).

    Rounding out the top 5 was Mansoor Al-Awamy (below right) of the host country Qatar, who closed out his series with a huge 279 game for 1774 (221.75).

    The players of Squad B will return Thursday for the second block which will conclude the qualifying. If the top five will repeat their performance, they will all finish in the top six and earn one bye for the finals.

    2011BWCMansourAlAwamy.jpgThe only player of Squad A, who averaged over 220, was Andrew Frawley of Australia, whose 232.31 average for his 16 games positions himself in third place on the combined leaderboard sorted by average.

    The H.H. Emir's Cup 2013 will be held from Sunday, Feb. 24 through Saturday, March 2 at Qatar Bowling Center, a 32-laner in Doha, Qatar.

    Players will compete for total prize money of US$77.800 with 25,000 Dollar going to the winner, 12,000 to the runner-up and 4,000 each to the third and fourth place finishers.

    Qualifying (total 16 games) runs over four days (Feb. 25-28; 8 games per day) and will be played in two squads (A and B) with maximum 64 players per squad. A player can choose to play in either Squad A or B or in both squads.

    Total 36 players including the top 28 qualifiers, the next two Qatari youth players, the next two Qatari bowlers and the top four players from the Desperado Squad, will advance to the finals on March 1 & 2. The top six qualifiers earn one bye.

    The other 30 players will bowl 8 games scratch with the top 10 advancing to the next round. Those ten and the top six qualifiers will roll another eight-game block scratch to determine the top four players who will clash in the semifinals.

    The No. 1 seed meets the No. 4 seed and the No. 2 seed the on the No. 3 seed over two games with the total pin fall to determine the winners, who will bowl for the title and 25 Grand in the two-game total pins championship match.
