The second stop on the 2013 International Seniors Bowling Tour drew 77 players, 63 men and 14 women.

The format for the tournament was two blocks of six games qualifying, with the lowest block optionally being replaced by a better re-entry score. For those not able to qualify through the main leaderboard, there were additional opportunities through Early Bird squads and Turbo games.

Age bonus started at age 51 (1 pin per game), then increased a pin for every additional year of age with no limit. As with all ISBT events, there was a separate division for ladies.

The lane pattern used was the Kegel Broadway pattern, which proved to be a much more enjoyable experience for the bowlers than the difficult pattern at the previous tournament held at Reims. The scoring was to reflect the more open playing condition.

Dutch John Bosch led the first squad, posting 1397 with age bonus. However, this was easily overtaken by Ernst Berndt with 1419 scratch and 1497 including bonus.

In the women's division, Germany's Christiane Kühn was the first woman to be over a 200 average, finishing with 1257 with bonus. This was to be overtaken in the following squad by another German bowler, Barbara Karnasch, with 1264.

In the following squads, more bowlers were getting close to the leading totals, ensuring that there would be a competitive position in both the men's and ladies sections, however, it took until squad 11 on Friday morning before the leading totals were beaten.

2013ISBT02RonOldfield.jpgLiliane Vintens, Belgium, totaled 1337 to post the highest women's total by quite some margin.

Friday afternoon saw the arrival of the majority of the bowlers from England and two previous ISBT winners immediately posted high series totals. Ron Oldfield totaled 1496 aided by his 22 pins a game bonus, and Angie Brown recorded a total of 1362.

Squad 10 early on Saturday morning brought the first 300 game of the tournament, and not many were surprised that it was achieved by Oldfield (pictured left). This was part of a 1465 set, which established him at the top of the qualification list. In the ladies section, former World Champion Martina Beckel, Germany, was top of the qualification standings.

2013ISBT02WomenRound2.jpgDuring the final squads, Oldfield had another huge set of 1495 to maintain the top qualification spot, followed by Berndt and Peter Todosijevic, Germany. The cut for the top 25 men who would automatically qualify was 2643 for Giorgio Desimio of Belgium, a single pin ahead of Rene Gooyers (Netherlands). These 25 were joined in the finals by six early bird qualifiers and four turbo qualifiers.

On the women's side, Beckel retained her lead closely followed by Brown, Vintens, and Yvette Murrath, Belgium, who were the only four qualifiers from the overall standings. They were joined by four early bird qualifiers and two turbo qualifiers (pictured right).

2013EBT04PeterKnopp.jpg2013ISBT02DetlefGreve.jpgAn early start on Sunday morning saw all the men except for the top seven qualifiers bowl four games from scratch to try and stay in the competition. Bosch maintained his early form to lead with 1030 followed some way back by Chris Vandamme, Belgium. Eleventh place and the cut for the next round was Florian Mihailescu, Romania, with 879.

All the remaining men now played another four-game block to qualify for the final round. In the third game, Germany's Detlef Greve (left) hit the magic 300, which helped him finish the round in second place behind leader Oldfield. The cut for the top ten was Peter Knopp (right), Germany, with 925.

The ten women were also bowling at the same time, with only the top four qualifying for the final. Gisela Insinger, Germany, led the way with 888 followed by Beckel, Karnasch and Rosemarie Greve, Germany.

The men's final over four games proved to be a runaway victory for Berndt, who finished over 50 pins ahead of Oldfield, with Knopp in third place.

In the all-German women's final, Karnasch put in four solid games to take the win, followed by Greve and Beckel.

The next stop is a return to Wittelsheim, France for the Alsace Senior Open 2013, which will be held at Cristal Bowling from the April 24-28, 2013. Full details are available at the ISBT website.
