New leaders emerge in Team All-Events, Regular Doubles at USBC Open Championships

    Three perfect games rolled on April 5; defending Regular Singles champion won't repeat

He was followed by former Junior Team USA and Team USA member Erik Vermilyea (2,097), Professional Bowlers Association Tour titlist Anthony LaCaze (2,050), Matthew Tuckfield (2,046) and former Junior Team USA member Jeffrey Mersch (1,901).

Chris Greene and Joe Keltner of Wichita, Kan., who are 2008 Regular Team champions, shot 1,403 on March 23.

    Magno, a 33-year-old right-hander, led the way with 752, and Conti, a 28-year-old right-hander, added 651.


    Three perfect games rolled on April 5

    2013USBCOCChadKloss.jpg2013USBCOCChrisSnyder.jpghad Kloss (pictured left) of West Allis, Wis., David Flemming  of Fairborn, Ohio, and Chris Snyder (right) of Allegan, Mich., each rolled a 300 game at the 2013 USBC Open Championships on April 5, marking the first time since June 2011 there were three in one day. All three came during team competition, bringing this year's total to seven.

    Kloss, a 36-year-old right-hander, added games of 203 and 228 for a 731 series. Flemming, a 55-year-old right-hander, had 216 and 170 for 686, and Snyder, a 39-year-old right-hander, rolled 209 and 215 for a 724 series.


    Defending Regular Singles champion won't repeat

    2013USBCOCHenryTeetzIIIBenHoefs.jpgDefending Regular Singles champion Henry Teetz III (left) of West Allis, Wis., will not become the first bowler to win back-to-back singles titles after shooting 637 in singles on April 6.

    The 41-year-old right-hander added 678 in doubles and 569 in team for a 1,884 all-events total. Teetz's performance helped him and Ben Hoefs (right) of Mobile, Ala., into fourth place in Regular Doubles with 1,392. Hoefs added 714 in the effort.


    A look ahead

    2012USBCOCShannonOKeefe.jpgOn April 13, Maynard Johnson of Crystal, Minn., will become the 17th bowler in Open Championships history to reach 60 tournament appearances. Johnson, 82, has knocked down 97,192 pins at the event for a lifetime average of 185.

    Also on April 13, Team USA member Shannon O'Keefe (pictured right) of Arlington, Texas, will be shown live on BowlTV starting at 10 p.m. Eastern. The group also features Bryan O'Keefe, Ron Nelson, Chris Viale and Bill Webb.

    The following day, Dale Diamond of Chatham, Ill., will make his 50th Open Championships appearance. The 71-year-old has amassed a career pinfall of 81,740, for a 185 average.
