Joline Persson Planefors defeats Lisa Kabowski to win QubicaAMF German Open 2013

    Victory marks the 14th consecutive European Bowling Tour season in which a woman wins an EBT title; Persson Planefors overtakes lead in 2013 Women's Point Ranking; third-place Pasi Uotila wins men's ranking in Berlin to leap into second place in the 2013 Men's Point Ranking

    2013EBT05LisaKabowski.jpgThe title match of the QubicaAMF German Open 2013 was a all women's affair with No. 1 seed, Lisa Kabowski of Germany and second-seeded Joline Persson Planefors of Sweden squaring off. The Swede won the final two-game total pins round, 488 to 412, to win her first title on the European Bowling Tour and the 7.000 Euro top prize.

    In the finals over two games total pins, Persson Planefors (pictured left) came out of the gates commandingly with 258-182 win and never looked back. Both players tied the second game at 214, which gave the Swede a 76-pin victory. Kabowski (right) received 4.000 Euro for second place.

Women have won at least one title in each of the 14 seasons since the EBT was founded in the year 2000. With the 150 ranking points for winning the EBT "Gold" event, the 2011 EBT Women's Point Ranking winner overtook the lead in the 2013 Rankings.

    Kabowski and Persson Planefors earned the No. 1 and No. 2 seed for the single-elimination match play finals by leading the third and final four-game round. The top eight players battled it out for the title in two-game matches. Women received eight pins handicap each game.

She ousted Michael Grabovac, Germany, in the quarterfinal, 543-414, and then eliminated four-time EBT champion Pasi Uotila (left) of Finland in the semifinals, 499-458.

    Kabowski took down qualifying leader Bodo Konieczny in the opening round, 408-348, and knocked off Mattias Olsson (right) of Sweden in the semis, 456-420.

    By virtue of the higher position after Round 3, No. 4 seed Uotila finished third to win the men's ranking in Berlin, which catapulted the Finn into second place in the 2013 men's ranking, trailing leader Ronnie Russell, United States, by mere seven points, 292-285. Uotila and Olsson received 2.400 Euro apiece.

    The QubicaAMF German Open 2013 is the fifth stop of the 2013 European Bowling Tour and the second out of six EBT "Gold" events this season. The tournament will be held from Saturday, April 20 through Sunday, April 28, 2013 at A10 Bowling, a 32-laner in Berlin, Germany.

    Players will compete for total prize money of 60.000 Euro with 7.000 Euro going to the winner, 4.000 Euro to the runner-up and 2.400 apiece to the third and fourth place finishers.

    Qualifying (6 games, unlimited re-entries) ran through Saturday, April 27 and concluded with the one-game Desperado Squad. Women receive 8 pins handicap each game, a standard for women on the European Bowling Tour.

    The tournament features a 39 ft. Oil Pattern (pdf file) with 25.2ml volume oil total.

    The top 40 players from the overall qualifying standings plus the top 4 of Squad 3 (not among the top 40) and the top 4 of the Desperado Squad advanced to the finals on Sunday, April 28. The top eight qualifiers received a two-round bye while qualifiers 9-16 got a first-round bye.

    The first three rounds of the finals each consist of four games scratch which will trim the field to 28, 16 and then eight players, who will bowl for the title in single-elimination match play finals with the two-game total determining the winner.

    In each match, the highest seeded player will meet the lowest seeded player, the second-highest seeded player will meet the second-lowest seeded player, etc.

    2013EBTLogo_small.jpg The 2013 European Bowling Tour consists of 19 tournaments in 13 countries including two Platinum, six Gold, four Silver and seven Satellite events.

    The top 50 men and the top 50 women in each event receive ranking points. The winner of a Platinum tournament receives 250 ranking points, the winner of a Gold tournament such as the QubicaAMF German Open 2013 gets 150, the winner of a Silver tournament earns 100, and the winner of a Satellite tournament gets 50 ranking points.

    The top 12 men and the top 12 women at the end of the 2013 season qualify for the seventh EBT Masters to be held March 3, 2014 at Dolfijn Bowling in Tilburg, Netherlands immediately following the EBT Hammer Bronzen Schietspoel Tournament 2014.
