Paul Moor ends four-year EBT title drought with victory in 1st Brunswick Madrid Challenge
2013 European Bowling Tour #8
English lefty wins his 12th title on the European Bowling Tour with 212-161 win against Finn Pasi Uotila; Sandra Andersson wins Women's Rankings in Madrid; Uotila and Sweden's Joline Persson-Planefors take over lead in EBT point rankings

Paul Moor (pictured left) of England won his 12th career European Bowling Tour title in the inaugural Brunswick Madrid Challenge and the 6.000 top prize Sunday at Bowling ChamartÃn in Madrid, Spain. In the title match, top-seeded Moor defeated Pasi Uotila (right) of Finland, 212-161, to end a four-year title drought.
Moor, who won the EBT men's point ranking in three consecutive seasons from 2004 to 2006, captured his last title in San Marino in 2009. The 34-year-old lefty started the title match with a strike, while right-handed Uotila suffered back-to-back splits which resulted in two open frames.
Moor added three spares and a strike to hold a 20-pin lead in the middle of the game as Uotila, who was looking for his fifth title on the Tour, had one strike in the fourth frame and single-pin spares in the third and fifth frame.
Moor used a double in the sixth and seventh frame to extend his lead and when Uotila followed two more single-pin spares with another open in his eighth frame, the match was practically over. Moor sealed the win with a strike in the ninth frame and finished with an error-free 212.

Uotila closed out his game with two single-pin spares and a strike on his fill ball for 161. He pocketed 3.000 Euro for second place and received 80 ranking points en route to overtake the lead in the men's point ranking after eight of 19 events this season. Uotila, seeded third after the fourth and last four-game round of the finals which trimmed the field to the top six players, posted a huge 258 game to eliminate all-time EBT title leader Osku Palermaa (left), Finland (13 titles, 237), Sandra Andersson (right), Sweden (227 including 8 pins handicap) and Perttu Jussila (below left), Finland (180) in the opening playoff match.

In the semifinal match, Uotila denied No. 2 seed Stuart Williams' (right) bid for an all-English championships match, defeating Williams, 213-190. Williams, who was looking for his seventh EBT title, received 2.000 Euro for third place and a 750 bonus for winning the qualifying. Palermaa, Andersson and Jussila took 1.500 Euro a piece for fourth, fifth and sixth place. With her fifth place finish, Andersson won the women's ranking in Madrid. Her compatriot Joline Persson-Planefors (below right), who finished in ninth place overall and second among the women, overtook the lead in the EBT women's point ranking.
The 1st Brunswick Madrid Challenge, a newcomer on the European Bowling Tour, was the eighth event on the 2013 schedule and the third out of four EBT "Silver" tournaments this season. The tournament was held from June 22-30 at 20-lane Bowling ChamartÃn in Madrid, Spain, and offered total prize fund of 41.250 Euro with 6.000 Euro going to the winner, 3.000 to the runner-up and 2.000 to the third place finisher.
Qualifying (six-game series, unlimited re-entries) ran from Saturday, June 22 through Saturday, June 29. Women receive 8 pins handicap each game throughout the entire tournament, a standard for women on the European Bowling Tour.
A total of 50 players qualified for the finals on Sunday, June 30 - the top 38 players from the overall qualifying standings, the top four players each from the combined standings of Squads 1-8 and 9-14, and the top four players of the Desperado Squad. The top 10 qualifiers received two byes while qualifiers 11-20 got a first-round bye.
The first three rounds of the finals featured four games from scratch. The field was trimmed to 30, 20 and then 10 players who carried forward the four-game total of Round Three into the fourth round.
After another four-game block, the player with the highest eight-game total advanced to the title match, the second player went to the semifinal and players ranked 3-6 advanced to the quarterfinal.
The playoffs were decided in one-game matches. The winner of the quarterfinal bowled the No. 2 seed for the right to bowl the No. 1 seed for the title.
The 2013 European Bowling Tour consists of 19 tournaments in 13 countries including two Platinum, six Gold, four Silver and seven Satellite events. The top 50 men and the top 50 women in each event earn ranking points based on how they finish. The winner of a Platinum tournament receives 250 ranking points, the winner of a Gold tournament gets 150, the winner of a Silver tournament such as the Madrid Challenge earns 100, and the winner of a Satellite tournament gets 50 ranking points.
Points are tabulated throughout the season and the top 12 men and the top 12 women qualify for the seventh EBT Masters to be held March 3, 2014 at Dolfijn Bowling in Tilburg, Netherlands immediately following the EBT Hammer Bronzen Schietspoel Tournament 2014.
The European Bowling Tour moves to Italy for the Brunswick Italia Challenge, which got underway yesterday at Bowling Red & Black in Asti, Italy. The finals will be contested on Sunday, July 7.
