Former Team USA members Erik Vermilyea of Mansfield, Texas, and Carolyn Dorin-Ballard of Keller, Texas, lead the 2013 United States Bowling Congress Summer Team USA Trials heading into the final day.

Vermilyea (pictured left) moved into the top spot on the men's side after Saturday's second round with a nine-game total of 2,100 (233.3 average), while Dorin-Ballard leads the women's field by a wide margin with 2,079 (231 average) at the International Training and Research Center.

The top two men and top two women after 15 games will earn automatic spots on Team USA for 2014. The field will bowl the six games on the long pattern (London) on Sunday. Bowl fans can follow the action live on BOWL.com's BowlTV.

Vermilyea leads the men's division by just two pins over John Szczerbinski of North Tonawanda, N.Y., who is second with 2,098. Geoffrey Young of Denton, Texas, is further 31 pins behind in third place with 2,067.

2013TeamUSASummerTrialsCarolynDorinBallard.jpg"My goal this weekend was just to have a chance going into the last day," said Vermilyea, who was a Team USA member in 2005. "I'm thrilled to be leading since I was just hoping to be within distance of the top two going into tomorrow."

Dorin-Ballard (right), a USBC Hall of Famer, has a big lead on the women's field with six games to go. Team USA member Stefanie Nation of Grand Prairie, Texas, is a distant second at 1,938, which is 141 pins behind Dorin-Ballard. Kayla Johnson of Washington, Ill., is third with 1,925.

"I was supposed to pick up my pins on the short pattern (Stockholm) yesterday and the medium pattern (Seoul) today," said Dorin-Ballard, a four-time member of Team USA. "Six games is a lot and you can never have enough. I just have to hang in there tomorrow and you never know what happens."

The Summer Team USA Trials features 31 men and 28 women competing for spots on Team USA. The remainder of the spots will be awarded through selections and the USBC Team USA Trials in January.
