The 17th Asian Youth Championships in Hong Kong drew record 129 players, 81 boys and 48 girls, from 21 countries of the Asian Bowling Federation, who will compete from Tuesday thru Saturday at 40-lane South China Athletic Association Bowling Center inside the SCAA sports complex at Causeway Bay in Hong Kong, China.

The participating countries include Australia, Bahrain, China, Chinese Taipei, DPR Korea, Egypt, Indonesia, Iran, Japan, Korea, Kuwait, Macau, Malaysia, New Zealand, Philippines, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Singapore, Thailand, UAE, and the host country Hong Kong.

Up to four boys and four girls per country who must not be born before January 1, 1993, will bowl in separate divisions for gold, silver and bronze medals in five disciplines: Singles (contested on long oil), Doubles (medium oil), four-player Teams (first block medium, second block long oil), All Events and Masters (first block long, second block medium oil).

The 17th edition of the most prestigious event for youth bowlers in Asia was officially declared open during the Opening Ceremonies on Sunday evening and will get underway Monday with the official practice.

Real action starts on Tuesday, September 10, with the girls and boys Singles event. Doubles competition will be held on Tuesday followed by the team event on Wednesday.

In Singles, Doubles and in the Team event, the players and teams with the highest pinfall total after six games will be declared the champions.

The top 16 players in All Events (18-game total; combined pinfall in Singles, Doubles and Team) will advance to the Masters event. The top three girls and boys after two eight-game blocks of round robin match play on Thursday will proceed to the stepladder finals.
