Indonesian boys, Malaysian girls claim gold in Doubles at Asian Youth Championships

Islam, who won silver in Singles on Tuesday rolled the field-best 1362 series on the 30-feet medium pattern and Syahril added the second-best 1350 series to win the title in boys doubles with 2712 total and an average of 226.00.

Islam, who had 1354 in Singles, holds a comfortable 91-pin lead in All-Events (combined results in Singles, Doubles and Team) with 2716 total and an average of 226.33 for twelve games.
Faten Najihah and Victoria Chin rolled two of three 1300-plus series in the girls division (Hong Kong's Joan Cheng had the other) Wednesday to easily win the gold medal in girls doubles with 2644 and an average of 220.33.

Najihah, who had 133, and Chin who toppled 1311 pins, out averaged their nearest competitor by more than 12 pins. South Korea's Kim Hee Bin and Ji Eun Sol (left, r-l) finished 148 pins behind the Malaysians to take the silver medal with 2496 (208.00).
Singapore's Joey Yeo Ruoqi and Ilma Nur Jannah (right, r-l) were another 47 pins behind to earn the bronze medal with 2449 (204.08).
Their 1300-series propelled Najihah and Chin into the lead in girls All-Events with 2541 (211.75) and 2483 (206.92), respectively. Ruoqi leaped into third place with 2465 behind a 1274 series today.
Action shifts to the four-player team event on Wednesday. The first three-game block will be contested on medium oil and the second block will be played on long oil.
The 17th Asian Youth Championships in Hong Kong drew record 129 players, 81 boys and 48 girls, from 21 countries of the Asian Bowling Federation, who will compete Sept. 10-14 at 40-lane South China Athletic Association Bowling Center inside the SCAA sports complex at Causeway Bay in Hong Kong, China.
Up to four boys and four girls per country who must not be born before January 1, 1993, will bowl in separate divisions for gold, silver and bronze medals in five disciplines: Singles (contested on long oil), Doubles (medium oil), four-player Teams (first block medium, second block long oil), All Events and Masters (first block long, second block medium oil).
Competition will conclude on Saturday with boys and girls Masters stepladder finals, which will be staged on Saturday, Sept. 14, at the 12-lane training facility inside the Hong Kong Sports Institute.
