Mohammed Al-Saud lands first ABF Tour victory in the UAE

    Saudi Arabian prince averages over 240 in single-elimination shoot-out matches

    Mohammed Al-Saud (pictured), a member of the Saudi Arabian royal family, averaged 242.25 and won four consecutive matches Sunday at Dubai International Bowling Center in Al Mamzar en route to claim his first title on the Asian Bowling Federation Tour in the UAE leg.

    In the title match, the Saudi Arabian prince defeated Anthony Balabbo of the Philippines, 233-212.

    The top 16 Asian men in the Dubai International Open qualified for the penultimate leg of the 2013 ABF Tour.

    Al-Saud eliminated Hussain Al-Suwaidi, UAE, in the opening round, 214-18, and went on to defeat Thailand's Sithiphol Kunaksorn, 256-216, and Yannaphon Larp-apharat, 266-235, on his way to the title match.

    In the upper half of the bracket, Balabbo got a first-round bye against Dubai Open winner Mahmood Al-Attar, UAE, who did not compete in the event for personal reasons, before he flew past Khalid Al-Doseri of Qatar, 244-162, in the Round of 8.

    Balabbo then defeated Hareb Al-Mansoori, UAE, in a low-scoring semifinal match, 167-156, to earn the right to bowl Al-Saud for the title.

    With only one leg to go, Rakan Al-Amiri (197 points) of Kuwait holds a comfortable 44-point lead in the men's ranking with Larp-apharat (153) in second place and Al-Saud and Al-Suwaidi tied for third at 151 points.

    ABFTourLogo_small.jpg The 2013 ABF Tour consists of nine legs, five in the Middle East with a men's division only and four in East and South East Asia featuring men and women in separate divisions.

    The women's Tour ended with the Indonesian leg in September. while the men's Tour will conclude on Tuesday, December 17 with the Saudi Arabia leg in Riyadh.

    Players earn ranking points based on how they finish in each event. The top 16 men and the top 16 women at the end of the 2013 season qualify for the ABF Tour Tournament of Champions scheduled for March 2014 in Kuwait.
