Jason Belmonte to debut Google Glass during PBA Tournament of Champions

Bowling fans will be able to observe bowling through the eyes of Australian two-handed star Jason Belmonte (pictured) during the Barbasol PBA Tournament of Champions when he wears Google Glass during the opening round of qualifying at Thunderbowl Lanes in Allen Park, Mich., on Jan. 18.
Google Glass is a "wearable computer" which features a head band frame that includes a digital camera capable of recording 720 dpi video, 16 GB of memory and voice recording technology. It operates like a hands-free smartphone.
The PBA will record video of one game through the eyes of Belmonte from the first round of TOC qualifying. The Google Glass viewpoint will then be posted on PBA's exclusive online bowling channel, Xtra Frame so Xtra Frame subscribers can click on the download whenever they want to watch the game as Belmonte saw it.
Belmonte also was wearing Google Glass when he bowled a 300 game during league play in the Wednesday Night Doubles at his family's Orange Tenpin Bowl in Orange, New South Wales, Australia, a week before Christmas. He recorded the game and posted it on YouTube, where it has been viewed by thousands of YouTube visitors.
In addition to the Belmonte-Google Glass special segment, Xtra Frame subscribers will be able to watch all qualifying and match play rounds of the Tournament of Champions. PBA star Chris Barnes of Double Oak, Texas, and Brittni Hamilton of Woodridge, N.J. (pictured r-l), claimed the 2014 men's and women's USBC Team USA Trials titles at The Orleans in Las Vegas Wednesday, earning the right to represent the United States in the 50th anniversary QubicaAMF World Cup later in 2014.
Barnes, who earned his 11th berth on Team USA, defeated fellow PBA Tour champion Mike Fagan of Fort Worth, Texas, 231-163, to take the men's title, while Hamilton narrowly edged former PBA Women's Series titlist Shannon Pluhowsky of Dayton, Ohio, 205-196, to win the women's title.
"After all these years, I finally get to bowl the World Cup," said Barnes, a 16-time PBA Tour champion.
Barnes, Fagan and third-place finisher John Szczerbinski of North Tonawanda, N.Y., earned automatic berths on Team USA 2014 by finishing in the top three in the five-day, 30-game tournament which included six games on five different lane conditions. Sarah Lokker of New Baltimore, Mich., finished third on the women's side.
The annual Chris Paul PBA League All-Stars fund-raiser, scheduled for Sunday, Jan. 12, in Los Angeles, has been postponed due to a shoulder injury sustained by Paul during a Los Angeles Clippers game against the Dallas Mavericks on Jan. 5. The event will be rescheduled.
Episode Seven of "The Bowling Center," featuring PBA Xtra Frame personalities Jason (The Bowling Guy) Thomas and Jef Goodger is now available on YouTube, featuring a recap of the WBT Finals telecast on ESPN and a preview of the next PBA telecast on ESPN – the PBA50 Tour and PBA Regional Players Invitational Finals on Jan. 19.
