Sean Rash, Kelly Kulick retain World Bowling Tour points leads

    PBA, USBC renew "Win a Spot" program for regional events; Mike Shequin wins first PBA Regional title in Spartanburg

    Rash, who won the 2013 World Bowling Tour Men's Finals presented by the PBA, had 648 points after last week's WTBA-PBA International Tour event in Doha, Qatar, while Finland's Mika Koivuniemi was second with 603 points, Australia's Jason Belmonte third with 558 points followed by Tommy Jones of Simpsonville, S.C., at 522 and England's Dom Barrett at 493.

    Kulick, who added 100 points to her total as the highest female finisher in the Masters, now has 740 points and a huge lead over fellow Americans Liz Johnson (505) of Cheektowaga, N.Y., and Missy Parkin (495) of Laguna Hills, Calif. Singapore's Jazreel Tan earned 35 points in Qatar to move into fourth place on the women's list with 360 points.

    PBA players are in the midst of a four-tournament international swing through the Middle East and Germany. The Kingdom of Bahrain Open in Oman, Bahrain, is currently underway and concludes Friday, and the Kuwait Open in Kuwait City follows, March 10-14.

    The Brunswick Euro Challenge at Dream Bowl Palace in Munich, Germany, concludes the series, March 15-23. Bowlingdigital.com will be onsite March 22-23 to provide Live Coverage and Live Streaming.

     


    PBA, USBC renew "Win a Spot" program for regional events


    The PBA and United States Bowling Congress have renewed the PBA Experience "Win a Spot" promotion which allows adult and youth bowlers who participate in USBC PBA Experience Sport Bowling leagues an opportunity to win a voucher for an individual entry into selected PBA Regional tournaments.

    The promotion is open to individuals who are USBC Sport Bowling members in good standing and participate in a PBA Experience League between Jan. 1 and Dec. 31, 2014. Eligible leagues must have at least eight teams and bowl a minimum 12-week schedule.

    To redeem vouchers, players must contact their respective league secretaries who will apply for the free-entry vouchers.

     


    PBA Regional Roundup: Mike Shequin wins first title in Spartanburg


    Mike Shequin of Debary, Fla., defeated Jimmy Jean of Kathleen, Ga., 299-255, 236-202, in the best-of-three-game title match to win his first PBA Regional title in the PBA50 Dave Edwards Toyota Spartanburg Southern Open presented by Dexter at Paradise Lanes in Spartanburg, S.C., Sunday.

    Shequin, who finished runner up in his last two PBA South Regionals, earned $2,000 while Jean pocketed $1,100 as the runner-up.

    As the PBA Regional calendar roars into March, a full schedule of activity is on tap leading into spring.

    The March 7-9 weekend includes the PBA Thunderbowl Over/Under 50 Midwest Doubles Classic in Council Bluffs, Iowa; the PBA50 Victory Lanes Central Open presented by Brunswick in Galion, Ohio, and the New Liberty Lanes South Open in Pensacola, Fla.

    On the March 14-16 calendar are the PBA50 Franklin South Open at Franklin Bowling Center in Franklin, Va.; the Trumbull County Visitors Bureau Central/East Open presented by DV8 at Bell-Wick Bowl in Hubbard, Ohio, and the one-day (Saturday, March 15) PBA50 Allstate Insurance Midwest Open presented by Brunswick at Plamor Lanes in Muscatine, Iowa.

    The March 21-23 PBA Regional calendar includes the San Angelo Southwest Open presented by Ebonite at Stadium Lanes in San Angelo, Texas; the PBA50 Rossi Lanes Eastern Open in Elmira, N.Y.; the PBA50 Fayetteville Lanes South Open in Fayetteville, N.C.; the Caveman Bowl Northwest/West Open presented by DV8 in Grants Pass, Ore., and the PBA50 Showtime Lanes Midwest/Central Open presented by MOTIV in Virden, Ill.

    Closing out the March schedule will be the PBA50 Boys and Girls Club Midwest/Central Open presented by Columbia 300 at Liberty Lanes in Carpentersville, Ill., and the Bowlers Discount Eastern Open at Brunswick Zone Normandy in Ellicott City, Md.

    Cecil Raymond of Sicklerville, N.J., the PBA East Region's 2013 Pat Patterson Award winner, lost his battle with cancer on Feb. 28. He was 71. Raymond and his wife Millie were long-time sponsors of the PBA Mil-Ray Foods Eastern Open.
