Putty Armein, Hussain Al-Suwaidi earn No. 1 seeds for 2013 ABF Tour TOC finals

    Men's and women's field is down to the top 8 players who will determine the champions in single-elimination bracket finals on Monday

    2013WCPuttyArmein.jpgIndonesia's Putty Armein (pictured left) and Hussain Al-Suwaidi, UAE, finished atop the women's and men's qualifying leaderboard to earn the No. 1 seeds for the single-elimination bracket finals of the Asian Bowling Federation (ABF) Tour Tournament of Champions Monday at Cozmo bowling center in Salmiya, Kuwait.

    The top 16 men and the top 16 women in the point ranking of the 2013 ABFT season qualified for the TOC.

    As in the previous TOC, Armein posted the highest 10-game block to finish atop the women's field. Armein toppled 2057 pins, an average of 205.7. Second place belonged to Hui Tong of Macau with 2009.

    Defending women's TOC champion Chan Shuk Han of Hong Kong survived qualifying in fifth place with 1939.

    Armein and Tong were the only players who averaged over 200. The women's field averaged 186.56. Last year's runner-up Angkana Netrviseth of Thailand took the eighth and last spot top advance to the finals with 1881 (188.10 average).

    2013WCHussainAlSuwaidi.jpgOn the men's side, Al-Suwaidi (pictured right) beat out Ryan Lalisang of Indonesia for the top spot by five pins, 2128 to 2123. Third place Surasak Manuwong, Thailand, was further 57 pins behind with 2066. The men's field averaged 199.11

    Manuwong's compatriot Sithiphol Kunaksorn hit the cutoff number with 1990 (199 average). Defending men's TOC champion Yannaphon Larp-apharat, Thailand, failed to advance to finish in 12th place with 1937.

    The men's and women's single-elimination bracket finals feature one-game matches. The winners advance and the losers will be eliminated. The men's champion will receive the US$20,000 top prize while the women's champion will walk away with US$10,000.
