Liz Johnson defeats Mai Ginge Jensen to win her second EBT title in Odense International
2014 European Bowling Tour #8
Third-place Joachim Karlsson (Sweden) wins men's ranking in Odense, Denmark; fourth-place Thomas Larsen (Denmark) and seventh-place Kamilla Kjeldsen (Denmark) widen their lead in EBT Point Rankings

Team USA member Liz Johnson (pictured left) struck out in the 9th and 10th frame in the title match of the Odense International to defeat top-seeded Mai Ginge Jensen of Denmark, 232-209, en route to win her second career European Bowling Tour title Sunday afternoon at Odense Bowling Center in Odense, Denmark. It is the second win by a woman on the 2014 Tour after Kamilla Kjeldsen's victory in the 8th International Wroclaw Open by Hammer and marks the second consecutive win and third overall for Johnson in the women's ranking of an EBT event.
Johnson, who won her first EBT title eight years ago in the 2006 Viernheim Open, pocketed the 4.000 Euro first prize.

The Women's U.S. Open and USBC Queens champion, seeded fourth for the one-game match play rounds, eliminated No. 2 seed Joachim Karlsson (left) of Sweden in the semifinals thanks to her eight pins women's handicap, 233-226. Jensen ousted fellow Team Denmark member Thomas Larsen (right) in the other semifinal match, 245-226.
It was the third match between Jensen and Larsen in the finals. Larsen, who barely made the cut to match play in eighths place, defeated Jensen, 238-232, in the Round of 8. Jensen, who survived the round as one of two "lucky losers", rebounded with a 223-204 win in the Round of 6. Larsen advanced as the "lucky loser" of that round to meet Jensen again in the semifinals.
Jensen, who was looking for her first EBT title after winning the women's ranking seven times, received 2.500 Euro for second place. As the higher seeded player, Karlsson finished in third place and Larsen in fourth, worth 1.100 Euro apiece. Larsen and seventh-place Kjeldsen (left) widened their lead in EBT Point Rankings.
Players competed for total prize money of 20.000 Euro with 4.000 Euro going to the winner, 2.500 to the runner-up and 1.100 apiece to the third and fourth place finishers. Low to cash was 36th place worth 220 Euro.
Qualifying (six games, unlimited re-entries) ran from May 25-31. Women received 8 pins handicap each game (maximum score is 300), a standard on the European Bowling Tour. The tournament featured a 41-foot lane conditioning pattern with 24.166ml oil volume.A total of 36 players qualified for the finals - the top 24 players from the overall qualifying standings plus the top two players each from the combined standings of Squads 1-3, 4-7 and 8-11, who are not among the top 24, one player each from the Turbo 1 and 2 list and the top 4 players of the Desperado Squad.
The Turbo 1 and 2 winners were the players with the highest score in the fifth (Turbo 1) and sixth (Turbo 2) game in any of the qualifying series (extra entry fee required).
The top 10 qualifiers received bonus pins for the first round of the finals as follows: Qualifying winner: 140 pins; second place: 120 pins; third place: 100 pins; fourth place: 80 pins; fifth place: 60 pins; sixth place: 50 pins; 7th place: 40 pins; 8th place: 30 pins; 9th place: 20 pins; and 10th place: 10 pins.
All 36 finalists bowled six games. The top 16 with the highest six-game total including bonus pins and women's handicap advanced to the second round with the pinfall carried forward.
Those 16 bowled another four games to cut to the top 8 who were seeded 1-8 for the match play finals featuring one-game rounds. In each round the highest seeded player met the lowest seeded player, the second-highest took on the second-lowest and so on.
The four winners of the Round of 8 plus two "lucky losers" (the two highest scoring players of the four losers) advanced. The three winners of the Round of 6 plus one lucky loser went to the semifinals. The winners of that round bowled for the title.
The 2014 European Bowling Tour features 20 tournaments in 14 countries. In its 15th season, the EBT consists of two Platinum, six Gold, three Silver and nine Satellite tournaments. The total prize fund exceeds one million Euro. The top 50 men and the top 50 women in each event receive ranking points. Those points will be tabulated throughout the season to determine the top 12 men and top 12 women, who will compete in the eighth EBT Masters July 6, 2015 in Asti, Italy.
The 2014 Tour takes a three-week break before heading to Madrid, Spain, for the II Brunswick Madrid Challenge, an EBT "silver" tournament to be held June 21-29 at Bowling ChamartÃn.
