Lorraine Sandven (right) of Tucson, Ariz., became the sixth and final competitor of the 2014 United States Bowling Congress Women's Championships to reach 50 years of participation on the tournament lanes.

The 78-year-old right-hander started her tournament career at the 1962 event in Phoenix and received a standing ovation June 13 at the Reno-Sparks Convention Center as she was awarded a plaque and medallion to commemorate the achievement.

"It was very surprising to me because I didn't realize it was such a big deal until it happened," said Sandven, who shot a 399 series in her milestone team event. "It's a fun thing. I wasn't really expecting all of this when I came up here."
