The final squad of the 111th edition of the event will hit the lanes at 2 p.m. EDT on July 13

2014USBCOCLogo.jpgThere was an abbreviated schedule this week at the United States Bowling Congress Open Championships as the National Bowling Stadium played host to the 2014 USBC Queens and USBC Senior Queens.

The 111th edition of the Open Championships kicked off Feb. 28, and so far, more than 45,000 bowlers have competed on the championship lanes at the NBS. There are 9,024 teams scheduled to compete this year before the event concludes July 13.

In nearly 130 days of Open Championships competition thus far, there have been 33 perfect games, including the first by a woman since 2012. There also have been 11 299 games and eight 298s, while an additional 43 bowlers have thrown 11 consecutive strikes. The 2014 event also has had seven 800 series.

2014USBCOCArtisticExpressions1.jpgTwo major scoring records have been beaten multiple times this year, too.

Regular Team-leading Artistic Expressions 1 of Oklahoma City (pictured left) tops the standings and record books with a 3,720 total, which topped the 3,561 rolled by Motion Plus Lanes of Cudahy, Wis.

The record entering the 2014 tournament was 3,538 set by Lodge Lanes Too of Orlando, Fla., on the way to the 2013 Regular Team title.

2014USBCOCTeamTurboGrips.jpgThe top three team games were rolled at the 2014 event with Team Turbo Grips of Fort Wayne, Ind. (right), setting the bar with a 1,318 effort June 20. The previous record was 1,299 by 123Bowl.com on May 2.

The record coming into 2014 was 1,281, shot by Turbo 2-N-1 Grips of Madison, Wis., en route to the Regular Team title in 2011.

    A look ahead

There again will be some short days at the USBC Open Championships as the National Bowling Stadium welcomes the USBC Senior Championships on July 8-9.

Senior players from across the United States and Canada will be in town to represent their states and provinces in six age-based categories in two divisions - Open and Women's.

All Senior Championships competitors will bowl six qualifying games over two days, and the field in each category will be cut to the top six players, who will advance to the three-game medal round to determine the champions.

The remaining team squads at the Open Championships will be held on July 5, 6, 10, 11 and 12. Doubles and singles competition will be held on July 6, 7, 11, 12 and 13. The final squad of the 2014 Open Championships will hit the lanes at 2 p.m. EDT on July 13.
