Shannon Pluhowsky bowls perfect game at 2014 USBC Open

Team USA member Shannon Pluhowsky (pictured left) of Dayton, Ohio, started and finished her trip to The Biggest Little City in the World this year in memorable fashion, including a 300 game at the 2014 United States Bowling Congress Open Championships.
The 31-year-old left-hander became the 10th woman in tournament history, and second this year, to achieve the milestone, which came in her second game of singles Sunday at the National Bowling Stadium. She sandwiched the 35th perfect game of this year's USBC Open Championships between games of 180 and 236 for a 716 series.
Pluhowsky is days removed from a disappointing USBC Queens tournament, held in the same venue where she won the event in 2006, so she was glad to end her trip on a positive note and give her some momentum heading into a competitive summer ahead.
"I had a terrible Queens and didn't really bowl that well last night, so finding a good look today and then bowling 300 makes the trip more memorable," said Pluhowsky, who finished 101st at the 2014 Queens. "It also was really nice to have my family here, and it was my first 300 since we had our daughter in November. That all makes it much more special."
The 14-time Team USA member has had some memorable performances on bowling's biggest stages, including games of 300 and 299 on the way to her record fourth gold medal at the 2011 World Tenpin Bowling Association World Women's Championships in Hong Kong.
Pluhowsky also has had a successful run at the USBC Women's Championships, which includes a Classic Team title in 2007 and Scratch Singles win in 2011.
Her recent visit to Reno started at the 2014 Women's Championships at the Reno-Sparks Convention Center, where she opened with a 279 game en route to a 763 team series and 2,062 all-events total, which is 14th in Division 1 All-Events this year.
Despite a slow start in her 10th Open Championships appearance this weekend at the NBS, Pluhowsky nearly matched her nine-game total on both sides of town. She finished with 730 in doubles and 623 in team for a 2,069 effort, just shy of her career-best 2,083, rolled at the Stadium in 2010.
"This trip, all in all, has been a good one and memorable overall," Pluhowsky said. "There definitely were positives to take from all of it, and that's important with a few big events coming up."
From here, Pluhowsky will prepare for the upcoming Proprietors Cup III (July 12-13) in Beavercreek, Ohio, followed by the Bowling Proprietors' Association of America Women's All-Star (July 21-25) in Rockford, Ill., and the Luci Bonneau Memorial Striking Against Breast Cancer Mixed Doubles Tournament in Houston on Aug. 2-3.
