National Bowling Stadium welcomes the 2014 USBC Senior Championships on July 8-9; final squad of the 2014 Open Championships will hit the lanes at 2 p.m. EDT on July 13

2014USBCOCEdwardRondot.jpgThe 2014 United States Bowling Congress Open Championships returned from a brief hiatus in exciting fashion as Edward Rondot (pictured left) of Ypsilanti, Mich., and Team USA member Shannon Pluhowsky of Dayton, Ohio, rolled perfect games on July 5 and July 6, respectively.

Both bowlers competed on the first USBC Open Championships team squad following the USBC Queens, and it didn't take long for Rondot to find his way into the record books.

The 47-year-old right-hander posted games of 233, 195 and 300 for the 34th perfect game of the 2014 event. His 728 series helped GoMongo.com of Saline, Mich., to a 3,034 team total.

2014USBCOCShannonPluhowsky.jpgPluhowsky (right), a 31-year-old left-hander, became the 10th woman in tournament history, and second this year, to achieve the feat. She also was the second southpaw to achieve perfection at the National Bowling Stadium during the 2014 Open Championships.

The 14-time Team USA member's run came in her second game of singles. She sandwiched the tournament's 35th 300 between games of 180 and 236 for a 716 series. She added 730 in doubles and 623 in team for a 2,069 effort, just shy of her career-best 2,083, rolled at the NBS in 2010.

    A look ahead

There again will be some short days at the USBC Open Championships as the National Bowling Stadium welcomes the 2014 USBC Senior Championships on July 8-9.

Senior players from across the United States and Canada will be in town to represent their states and provinces in six age-based categories in two divisions - Open and Women's.

2014USBCOCLogo_small.jpgAll Senior Championships competitors will bowl six qualifying games over two days, and the field in each category will be cut to the top six players, who will advance to the three-game medal round to determine the champions.

The remaining team squads at the Open Championships will be held on July 10, 11 and 12. Doubles and singles competition will be held on July 11, 12 and 13. The final squad of the 2014 Open Championships will hit the lanes at 2 p.m. EDT on July 13.
