Yvette Murrath of France and Germany's Carlo Greulich (pictured left, r-l) wrapped up the 2013 season of the International Seniors Bowling Tour with victory in the women's and men's ISBT Masters Finals August 4 at Chandra Bowling in Nieuwegein, Netherland.

Every year, the top competitors from the ISBT series of tournaments are invited to participate in the Masters Final. There is no entry fee to participate and the prize fund is generated from the tournaments run during the year.

For the 2013 year, the tournament was held immediately after the Dutch Senior Open, also at Chandra Bowling in Nieuwegein, and the top 32 men and 12 women from the previous year's rankings were invited.

As in the regular ISBT tournaments, the Masters had separate men's and women's sections. In the men's section, the 32 bowlers would initially bowl a four game block, with the top 20 bowling a further six games.

ISBTMasters2013FinalistsMen.jpgThe top eight men after all ten games (left) would then go forward to the round robin final. The format in the women's section was a single six-game block, again with the top eight going forward to the final.

The first men's round saw Romanian Valentin Fatu lead, narrowly ahead of Hermann Wimmer of Germany and Ron Oldfield of England. Last qualifier in 20th place was Oldfield's compatriot Mo Singleton.

ISBTMasters2013FinalistsWomen.jpgThe next round saw mixed fortunes for many of the bowlers. Singleton had a good block to move from 20th into the last qualifying position in eighth. Fatu didn't fair so well, and slipped to ninth, missing out on the finals. Leading the way was Oldfield, with Dutch Senior Open winner Carlo Greulich, Germany, a little distance behind.

The women's Round 1 (pictured right are the top 8) was led by former two-time world champion, Martina Beckel, Germany, just ahead of her fellow countrywoman Gisela Insinger. The fight for the last place was tight, but was just won by Maria Grazia Locatelli of Italy.

ISBTMasters2013Top3Women.jpgThe Round Robin finals started with 50% of the pinfall from the previous games. Steady bowling from Yvette Murrath (center) saw her move up from second place, and finally reach the number one position, just 11 pins ahead of second place Martina Beckel (left). Fellow German Marianne Pelz (right) finished in third place.

ISBTMasters2013Top3Men.jpgIn the men's final, Carlo Greulich (center) was unstoppable, winning six of his seven matches including final games of 234, 233 and 232 to finish almost 100 pins clear of the field.

In second place was Frank Stander (left) of England, who bowled exceptionally well to average over 190 at the age of 84. It was a family victory for the Standers, as wife Ruth finished seventh in the women's section. Third place in the men's section went to Herman Wimmer (right).

The location of the 2014 Masters final is still to be decided by the ISBT committee, but it is sure to be well supported by the ISBT members who greatly enjoy the competition and social activities of the ISBT tournaments.

The next stop on the 2014 International Seniors Bowling Tour is the 50+ Euro Bowling Open, which marks the second visit of the year to Euro Bowling in Deurne, Belgium. The tournament runs from the 14th to 17th August. Full details are available at ISBTBowlingTour.eu.
