Applications being accepted for Tony Reyes Community Service award

The Professional Bowlers Association is now accepting nominations for the 2014 Tony Reyes Community Service award, named in honor of the late PBA Tour player in recognition of his service to the bowling community.
The award will be presented to a PBA member in good standing, based upon the extraordinary community service, charitable and/or educational contributions the nominee has made during the 2014 calendar year.
PBA Hall of Famer Parker Bohn II of Jackson, N.J., was the winner of the inaugural Reyes award.
The postmark deadline for nominations will be Wednesday, Nov. 26. Nominees must be current PBA members in good standing. The winner will be selected by a PBA committee and announced along with the 2014 PBA Player of the Year, Rookie of the Year and Steve Nagy Sportsmanship Award winners early in 2015.
Nominations may be submitted by anyone. The nomination form is available here.
Players who appear on GEICO PBA World Series of Bowling VI telecasts will be encouraged to wear BVL identification on their shirts in support of Bowlers to Veterans Link, the charity funded exclusively by the bowling community.
BVL each year raises nearly $1 million to provide a variety of services to America's hospitalized veterans (bowlersforveterans.org).
GEICO WSOB telecasts will include the Cheetah Championship presented by the PBA Bowling Challenge Mobile Game; the Viper, Chameleon and Scorpion Championships; PBA Challenge Finals; World Bowling Tour Men's and Women's Finals presented by PBA, and the PBA World Championship.
All telecasts except the PBA World Championship will be contested on Saturday and Sunday, Nov. 1-2, in the new South Point Bowling Plaza, to air on consecutive Sundays on ESPN starting Dec. 16.
The PBA World Championship will be a live telecast from the South Point Bowling Plaza on Sunday, Jan. 11.
Dave Schroeder, who has worked in various aspects of media activities with the PBA since 1993, has been promoted to PBA Vice President-Media, Commissioner Tom Clark has announced.
In his expanded role, Schroeder will be responsible for overseeing most aspects of the PBA Network, including PBA's network television activities, pba.com, Xtra Frame, social media and news media relations.
Liz Johnson (pictured left) of Cheektowaga, N.Y., and Amanda Greene of Romney, W.Va., locked up the PBA Central and Midwest Women's Regional points titles over the Oct. 5 weekend, earning paid entries into the PBA World Series of Bowling VI and berths in the PBA Women's Regional match play event which will be held on Friday, Oct. 24, at South Point Bowling Center.
The eight-player, eight-game round robin match play event will determine the two players who will advance to the PBA Challenge presented by the International Bowling Museum and Hall of Fame on Sunday, Nov. 2. The PBA Challenge special event will air on ESPN on Sunday, Jan. 18, at 3 p.m. ET.
T.J. Schmidt (pictured) of Mishawaka, Ind., defeated E.J. Tackett of Huntington, Ind., by 76 pins to win the PBA Fishing & Hunting USA/Northway Lanes Central Open at Northway Lanes in Muskegon, Mich., on Sunday, Oct. 5.
Schmidt finished the 15-game event with a 5-3 match play record and a total of 3,546 pins, including match play bonus pins. The title was Schmidt's first in PBA Regional competition, and it qualified him to enter the 50th anniversary PBA Tournament of Champions that will be held at Woodland Bowl in Indianapolis in February. He also earned $2,000.
The tournament was the third and final Central Region PBA Women's Regional points events. With her fifth-place overall finish, Liz Johnson of Cheektowaga, N.Y., overtook Shannon Pluhowsky of Kettering, Ohio, to earn a berth in the PBA Women's Regional finals and a paid entry into the PBA World Series of Bowling VI at South Point Bowling Center Oct. 24-Nov. 2. She also won $600.
Tackett won the Central Region berth in the PBA Regional Finals, which also will be contested on Oct. 24, along with a paid WSOB VI entry.
Sean Lavery-Spahr of Pasadena, Texas, defeated Dave Williams Jr. of Omaha, Neb., 258-171, to win the PBA Calvert's Express Auto Midwest/Southwest Region Open at Aaron's Family Fun Center in Belton, Mo., Sunday, for his second career regional title and a $2,200 prize.
Williams defeated Ben Howison-Johnstone of St. Charles, Missouri, 232-189, in the semifinal game to advance to the championship match. Howison-Johnstone defeated Don Breeden of Clive, Iowa, 227-217, in the first match.
In the third and final PBA Women's Regional qualifying contest, Amanda Greene of Romney, W.Va., shot 258 in her final game to slip past Kayla Stram of Grand Rapids, Minn., and win the PBA Midwest Region's berth in the PBA Women's Regional finals along with a paid entry into the PBA WSOB VI. Greene finished 15th overall in the Belton field, earning $400, while Stram finished 17th.
Brian LeClair (pictured left with sponsor Gary Harwood, Maple City Dodge, right) of Albany, N.Y., won six of his eight matches and finished with a 16-game total of 3,830 pins to record a 110-pin victory over Joe Paluszek of Bensalem, Pa., in the PBA Maple City Dodge Open at Maple City Bowl in Hornell, N.Y., on Saturday, Oct. 4.
LeClair took a 59-pin lead over Paluszek going into the final position round game. Paluszek, who needed to beat LeClair by 30 pins to win, was in contention until he suffered a ninth-frame split. His 218 final game was enough to keep him in second place by seven pins over Joe Ciccone of Buffalo, N.Y.
Mike Scroggins (right) of Amarillo, Texas and Scott Greiner of Platte City, Mo., won PBA50 Regional events in a Southwest Region doubleheader weekend at Junction City Bowl in Junction City, Kan.
On Saturday, in a match of major PBA title holders, Scroggins, the 2009 U.S. Open and 2005 USBC Masters champion, defeated 1998 PBA Tournament of Champions victor Bryan Goebel of Shawnee, Kan., 280-235, to win his first PBA50 title since turning 50 in March.
On Sunday, Greiner advanced from third place in the final position round match with a 278 game to vault past previous Junction City champion Mike Dias of Lafayette, Colo. Dias held a 46-pin lead over Goebel and was 77 pins ahead of Greiner going into last game of the round-robin match play. Dias lost to Goebel, 217-203, but his two strikes in the 10th frame allowed him to hang on to second place.
With the PBA World Series of Bowling VI looming at South Point in Las Vegas, Oct. 24-Nov. 2, the Oct. 10-12 PBA Regional calendar includes the PBA50 Centre Lanes Senior/Super Senior Doubles in North Canton, Ohio; the PBA50 Shreveport Southwest Open at All Star Lanes in Shreveport, La.; the PBA50 Dover Eastern Open at Brunswick Doverama in Dover, N.J.; the PBA Battle at Black Oak Casino West Open in Tuolumne, Calif., and the PBA and PBA50 Thunderbowl Midwest Opens in Council Bluffs, Iowa, which also will include the PBA/PBA50 Thunderbowl Baker Team Classic. The Tuolumne, Calif., tournament will be the PBA West and Northwest Regions' final PBA Women's Regional qualifier.
The weekend prior to the start of the WSOB VI (Oct. 17-19) will include the PBA Young & Pratt Southwest Open at Dart Bowl in Austin, Texas; the PBA Kokomo Central Shootout presented by Security Federal Savings Bank – a one-day, reduced entry fee event on Sunday, Oct. 19, with live coverage on Xtra Frame – at Heritage Lanes in Kokomo, Ind.; the Franklin South Open at Franklin Bowling Center in Franklin, Va.; and the PBA Sands Regency West/Northwest Challenge and Sands Regency West/Northwest Re-Entry Open at the National Bowling Stadium in Reno, Nev.
October's schedule concludes with the traditional South Point All Regions Open and the South Point Member/Non-Member Doubles at South Point Bowling Center in Las Vegas, Oct. 31-Nov. 2.
