Top-seeded Bernice Lim, Jeong Tae Hwa win 12th Indonesia Open in decisive second game

    Top 16 Asian men and women advance to Monday's Asian Bowling Federation Tour Indonesia leg

    Lim, who earned the No. 1 seed in the women's finals by averaging 230.75 in the eight-game Round Two, met third-seeded Alisha Iman Cheong of Malaysia in the title match. The Malaysian won the first game by three pins, 217-214, setting up the decisive second game.

    2013WGGeraldineNg.jpg2014SINDayangKhairuniza.jpgCheong pulled away with a six-bagger in frames 4 to 9 but missed a single-pin spare in her last frame to hand the game and the match to Lim, who doubled in the 10th frame for a three-pin victory, 248-245.

    Lim received 50 million Indonesian rupiah (approx. $4,135) for the victory. Cheong, who ousted Joan Cheng of Hong Kong and Geraldine Ng (left) of Singapore in the semifinal shootout match, 214-198-198, earned 25 million rupiah, while Cheng got 12.5 million rupiah for third place.

    Ng who took the sixth and last berth for the stepladder, sidelined Dayang Khairuniza (right) of Malaysia and Ivana Hie of Indonesia, in the opening shootout match, 201-144-192. Ng pocketed 10 million rupiah while Khairuniza and Hie garnered 8 and 7 million rupiah for fifth and sixth place, respectively.

    2014WYCMastersMichaelMak.jpg2013WCAdrianAng.jpgIn the men's final top-seeded Hwa sat and watched the opening shootout match in which Michael Mak (left) of Hong Kong posted a 247 game to take care of Johnathan Chan of Malaysia (181) and Hussain Al-Suwaidi, UAE (187).

    Mak (198) and second-seeded Syimir Abdul Razak of Malaysia (211) fell to Razak's teammate Adrian Ang (right, 228) in the semifinal match.

    Ang carried the momentum into the men's title match, defeating top-seeded Hwa, 217-198, to force a decisive second game. Hwa, who bowled two clean games, managed to strike on seven out of eight shots in frames 3 to 10, to cruise to victory with a 245-214 win.

    The Korean earned the 150.000.000 Indonesian rupiah top prize (approx. $12,400). Ang was consoled with 100 million rupiah for being the runner-up. Razak made 60 million rupiah for his third place finish. Mak gathered 40 million rupiah for fourth place. Chan received a 25 million rupiah fifth-place prize and Al-Suwaidi took home 17.5 million rupiah for sixth place.

    The 12th Indonesia International Open Bowling Championship was held from Oct. 18-26 at Jaya Ancol bowling center, Jakarta, Indonesia. Men and women competed in separate divisions. Qualifying (highest six game total; three-game block; unlimited re-entries) ran thru October 24.

    The top 10 women and the top 12 men from each pool (local, overseas and mixed) advanced to the finals. The top 3 players each from the local and overseas pool earned one bye.

    The other 24 women and 30 men rolled eight games scratch to cut to the top 15 women and top 18 men, who met the top qualifiers in Round Two. The top six players each after another eight games scratch were seeded 1-6 in the stepladder finals.

    ABFTourLogo_small.jpgPlayers 4-6 opened the action with a one-game shootout match. The winner advanced to the semifinal match, where he/she took on the No. 2 and 3 seeds. The winner of that match went against the top-seeded player for the title and first prize check.

    The top 16 Asian men and women advance to the eighth and penultimate leg of the 2014 Asian Bowling Federation (ABF) Tour which will be contested on Monday, Oct. 27 at Jaya Ancol bowling center.
