Liza Del Rosario holds the lead as women's World Cup competition reaches halfway mark

    Filipina averages over 230 for ten games to beat out Squad B leaders Brittni Hamilton, Rebecka Larsen and Clara Guerrero for top spot; score to make the cut in 24th place is currently 1972 (197.20 average)

    2014BWCLizaDelRosario2.jpg2014BWCBrittniHamilton.jpgLiza Del Rosario of the Philippines maintained her lead in the women's division of the 50th QubicaAMF Bowling World Cup as the competition has reached its halfway mark Thursday at Sky Bowling Center in Wroclaw, Poland.

    The long-time national team member and 2003 world champion in trios added an 1109 series to the 1195 from yesterday to lead the field of 70 women from 70 countries with 2304 total and an average of 230.4.

    Del Rosario had games of 256, 207, 246, 217 and 183 to overtake Squad B leader Brittni Hamilton (right), United States, by 24 pins. The Team USA member, who had an 1151 series earlier today, sits in second place with 2280.

    Fifth to seventh place belonged to A Squad bowlers. Martina SchĂĽtz of Germany finished her set with a huge 279 game for 1099 to remain in fifth place with 2183. Sandra Gongora (right) of Mexico closed out her 1112 series with 268 and 225 to leap from 11th to sixth place with 2163.

    Amanda Larkin (below left) of Ireland had the highest series of Squad A, second highest of the day with 1178 (Guerrero led with 1202) including games of 236, 236, 234, 183 and 289, an average of 235.60 to jump from 20th to seventh place with 2159.

With 10 of 20 qualifying games in the books, the cut for 24th place to survive the qualifying cut is 1972 by Bianca Tofilau (right) of New Zealand.

    For comparison, the cut for 24th place at the 2012 World Cup also held at Sky Bowling Center in Wroclaw was 195.65.

    The women are done for today and will return on Thursday for the third block of qualifying. Squad A will start at 11 a.m. and Squad B will follow at 5.30 p.m. CET.

    Live coverage and live streaming commences on Tuesday, November 4th, with the first round of qualifying and concludes on Sunday 9th with the stepladder finals.

    2014BWCLogo.jpg The preliminaries consist of four blocks of five games with the top 24 men and the top 24 women after 20 games advancing to the intermediate round. Those 24 players bowl further 8 games with the pinfall total from the preliminaries being carried forward.

    The top 8 men and the top 8 women after 28 games will bowl a further seven games round robin match play plus one game position round (total 8 games) with 30 pins bonus per win and 15 for a tie.

    The top 3 men and the top 3 women after 36 games including bonus pins will determine the champions in the stepladder finals in best-of-three games format.
