United States Bowling Congress and Professional Bowlers Association Hall of Famer Pete Weber (pictured left) of St. Ann, Missouri, extended his strong performance into the second round Wednesday at the 2015 USBC Masters as he stayed atop the leaderboard.

Weber, who is looking to win the Masters for the first time in his career, extended his lead on the field of 336 of the top bowlers in the world with a 10-game total of 2,478 (247.8 average) at The Ashwaubenon Bowling Alley. The finals of the event will be broadcast live on ESPN on Sunday at 1 p.m. Eastern.

After leading the tournament by 79 pins after the first round, Weber increased that lead slightly to 86 pins over second place. He had games of 212, 237, 248, 249 and 224 for 1,170 in Wednesday's second round after shooting 1,308 in the first round.

"I felt just as good today as I did yesterday, but my angle may have been a little different because I left a lot of ringing 10 pins," said Weber, who has won 37 career PBA titles, including 10 majors. "Honestly, I really don't care where I qualify as long as I'm in the top 63. Yes, I'd like to be first, but the goal is just to make match play."

Team USA member John Szczerbinski (left) of Columbus, Ohio, used a 300 game Wednesday to surge into second place with a 10-game total of 2,392. Chad Roberts (right) of Reynoldsburg, Ohio, is third with 2,365, while EJ Tackett (below left) of Huntington, Indiana, is fourth with 2,363.

Canadian national team member Francois Lavoie of Wichita, Kansas, also shot a perfect game in the second round and sits in a tie for 95th with 2,112.

All competitors will bowl 15 games of qualifying over three days before the field is cut to the top 63 plus defending champion Jason Belmonte (right) of Australia for the double-elimination match-play bracket starting Friday. Belmonte, who bowls qualifying to try to earn the highest seeding position possible, moved from 62nd place after the first round to 11th place with 2,301.

The top five players at the conclusion of the bracket competition will compete in the live two-hour championship round on ESPN.

The Masters, which features a first-place prize of $50,000, is a major event on the PBA Tour and is part of the World Tenpin Bowling Association World Bowling Tour.
