2012USBCOCBillLillard65.jpgHouston's Bill Lillard (with a commemorative plate for his 65th consecutive appearance in 2012), one of the original PBA founding members in 1958, is expected to break the United States Bowling Congress Open Championships total pinfall record, one of the most cherished records in USBC history, on March 30-31 when he competes in his 68th consecutive Open Championships at the El Paso, Texas, Convention Center.

Lillard, who currently trails the late Joe Norris' all-time pinfall record of 123,770 pins, needs 853 pins to break the record Norris set in 71 tournament appearances.

Lillard, 87, has averaged 197 in USBC Open competition since bowling in his first event in 1948. He will bowl team event on March 30, and is expected to break Norris' record during his doubles event on Tuesday, March 31.

Lillard, a star in the golden era of "beer team" competition and a one-time member of the famous Budweisers of St. Louis, won his only PBA title in the 1966 Miller High Life Open in Milwaukee.
