    Mike J. Laneside to make "debut" in PBA50 Pasco County Florida Open; Monacelli, Learn form new coaching services company; Villanueva, Ruffner & Forkel win at South Point


    After months in the making, the ESPN "30 for 30" documentary about PBA Hall of Famer Pete Weber (pictured), "The Bad Boy of Bowling," is making its debut at film festivals around the country on its way to a yet-to-be-announced premier as part of ESPN "30 for 30" series.

    "It's been a secret until now, but we are happy to announce that our film, "The Bad Boy of Bowling," will be making its way into the world in the upcoming months," said Bryan Storkel, director/producer with SideStilt Films. "The film tells the story of Pete Weber, the self-declared 'bad boy of bowling' and the first rock star of the sport."

    The film will make its formal debut at the Ashland Independent Film Festival in Ashland, Ore., April 10, 11, 12 and 13, followed by showings at IFF Boston April 22-29 and the San Francisco International Film Festival at Sundance Kabuki Cinemas April 25 and May 5. Additional film festival showings will be announced later. The ESPN "30 for 30" premier also will be announced later.

    2014PBA07MikeJakubowskiMarshallHolman.jpgOn the heels of celebrating his 50th birthday during the PBA League competition in Portland, Maine, Mike Jakubowski (pictured left with Hall of Famer Marshall Holman, right), also known as Mike J. Laneside, the voice of Xtra Frame, will make his PBA competitive debut as a competitor in the PBA50 Pasco County Florida Open in Port St. Lucie, Fla., starting Sunday.

    Jakubowski will relate his experiences as a PBA50 Tour participant to the Xtra Frame audience following the qualifying rounds Sunday and Monday at Lane Glo Bowl – and beyond if he's able to make the cut to match play.

    During the 2015 PBA50 Tour season, all tournaments (except the USBC Senior Masters) will be covered start-to-finish live on PBA's exclusive online bowling channel, Xtra Frame. For subscription information, visit and click on the Xtra Frame link.


    Monacelli, Learn form new coaching services company

    2013PBA50AmletoMonacelli2.jpg2013PBA50BobLearn.jpgPBA Hall of Famer Amleto Monacelli (left), a 19-time title winner and 33-year veteran of PBA competition, and five-time PBA Tour champion Bob Learn Jr. (right) have formed a new coaching services company, Bowling Revolutions.

    Both players, who are long-time friends, have been actively involved in coaching for several years and join a growing group of PBA champions who are entering the coaching business.

    Learn's background includes former positions with the USBC Coaching Department, where he worked with Team USA for five years, and work with the Turbo 2n1 Grips' Turbo Tech Training Center for five years.

    PBA Regional Update: Villanueva, Ruffner & Forkel win at South Point

    2013PBA50EricForkel.jpgAmateur Steven Villanueva of North Las Vegas defeated fellow non-member Bobby Hornacek of Redlands, Calif., 213-203, to win the PBA South Point West Challenge at South Point Bowling Center on Friday, April 3, and amateur Darris Ruffner of Visalia, Calif., and Eric Forkel (pictured) of Henderson, Nev., teamed up to win the companion PBA South Point Member/Non-Member Doubles on Sunday April 5.

    Villanueva earned $1,800, but doesn't get credit for a PBA title because he is not a PBA member. PBA Challenge events are open to non-champions only. Both weekend tournaments were presented by Ebonite.

    Ruffner and five-time PBA Tour titlist Forkel defeated non-member Gary Estep Jr. of Peoria, Ariz. and Jim Pratt of Glendale, Ariz., 470-341, in the title match to claim the $3,600 first prize in the doubles event.

    Josh Maxson of Killeen, Texas, defeated former member C.J. Thomas of Shreveport, La., 217-194, to win his first PBA Regional title and the $2,000 first prize in the PBA U Can Bowl 2 Houston Southwest Challenge presented by Roto Grip, at Houston's Del-Mar Lanes Sunday.

    The April 10-12 PBA Regional calendar includes a PBA and PBA50 Earl Anthony West/Northwest Memorial Classic doubleheader at Earl Anthony's Dublin Bowl in Dublin, Calif.; the FireLake Grand Casino Hotel & Resort Southwest Open presented by Hammer in Shawnee, Okla.; the Station 300 Bluffton South Open in Bluffton, S.C.; the Rockaway Lanes Eastern Open presented by Storm in Rockaway, N.J., and a pair of one-day reduced entry fee Fun Time Center Central/Midwest Open events in Kokomo, Ind.

    On the April 15-17 PBA Regional calendar is the PBA50 Sarasota South Open at Sarasota Lanes in Sarasota, Fla. The April 17-19 weekend includes the Bowlers Discount Eastern Open presented by Hammer at Brunswick Zone Normandy in Elliott City, Md.; back-to-back one-day reduced entry fee Country Club Lanes Central/Midwest Opens in Elkhart, Ind., and the Tacoma Speedometer Member/Non-Member Doubles, a reduced entry fee event presented by Pawnbrokers Northwest, at Bowlero Lanes in Lakewood, Wash.

    Another mid-week PBA50 event is the PBA50 Tarheel Lanes South Open April 23-25 in Hendersonville, N.C. Players will then head to Hawaii for the annual tripleheader beginning April 26-27 with the Kona West/Northwest Open at KBXtreme Lanes in Kailua-Kona followed by the Hawaii West/Northwest Open presented by Storm at Scofield Air Base on April 29, and the Hickam AFB West/Northwest Open May 1-3.

    Also leading off the month of May over the May 1-3 weekend will be the Junction City (Kan.) Bowl Southwest/Midwest Open presented by Radical, and the Pro Bowl West Tri-Region Member/Non-Member Doubles presented by the Proprietor's Cup in Ft. Wayne, Ind.
