Four players crack top 10 as qualifying reaches the halfway mark in Madrid

Although there were no changes at the top of the leaderboard in the III Brunswick Madrid Challenge on Wednesday four players cracked the top 10 as qualifying reached the halfway mark at Bowling ChamartÃn in Madrid, Spain.
Three-time European Bowling Tour point ranking leader Paul Moor (pictured left) of England led Squad 14 (13 has been canceled) with 1344 total and an average of 224 to move into fifth place in the qualifying standings.
The lefty, who is trying to extend his all-time leading Tour win total to 17, had games of 215, 226, 245, 200, 191 and 267.

Reigning European All-Events and Masters champion Diana Zavjalova (above right) of Latvia was mere four pins behind Moor with 1340 to take over sixth place. Zavjalova, who receives eight pins handicap each game, averaged 215.33 scratch.
Mai Ginge Jensen (left) of Denmark, World Champion in All-Events in 2011, was further 11 pins behind to sit in ninth place with 1281 and 1329 including handicap.
Rounding out the top 10 was Dave Wodka (right), United States, who toppled 1321 pins including a high game of 279.

Qualifying continues on Thursday, July 2, with Squads 17 & 18 scheduled to start at 5 and 9 p.m. Central European Summer Time (15 & 16 have been canceled).
The III Brunswick Madrid Challenge is the 10th stop of the 2015 European Bowling Tour season and the third and last EBT "Silver" tournaments this season. The tournament will be held from June 27 - July 5 at 20-lane Bowling ChamartÃn in Madrid, Spain.
Players will compete for total prize money of 40.250 Euro with 6.000 Euro going to the winner, 3.000 to the runner-up and 2.000 to the third place finisher. Last-to-cash payout (50th place) is 300 Euro.
Qualifying got underway on Saturday, June 27, and runs through Saturday, July 4, with the final qualifying Squad 26 scheduled for 9 p.m. CEST. Qualifying concludes with the one-game Desperado Squad slated to start 30 minutes past Midnight. The qualifying winner receives a 750 Euro bonus.
Women receive 8 pins handicap each game (maximum score is 300), a standard on the European Bowling Tour. The top 2 women in qualifying (before Desperado Squad) earn 750 and 500 Euro, respectively.
Total 50 players will qualify for the finals on Sunday, July 5 - the top 38 players from the overall qualifying standings, the top three players from the combined standings of squads 1-8 and the top 5 of squads 9-12 who are not among the top 38, and the top four players of the Desperado Squad. The top 10 qualifiers will receive two byes while qualifiers 11-20 will get a first-round bye.
The first three rounds of the finals feature four games from scratch. The field will be trimmed to 30, 20 and then 10 players who will advance to another four-game round with the Round 3 total being carried forward.
The top 3 with the highest eight-game total will advance to the stepladder finals. The No. 2 and 3 seeds open the action with a one-game shootout match. The winner goes against the No. 1 seed for the title and 6.000 Euro first prize.
The 2015 European Bowling Tour currently consists of 17 tournaments in 13 countries featuring three "Platinum" events, three "Gold", three "Silver" and eight "Satellite" events. All 17 tournaments together offer total prize fund of 870.000 Euro or 966.250 U.S. Dollar.
The top 50 men and the top 50 women in each event receive ranking points. Those points will be tabulated throughout the season to determine the top 12 men and top 12 women, who will compete in the 9th EBT Masters July 25, 2016 at Rose'n Bowl in Serravalle, San Marino following the 12th San Marino Open.

Top 38 players from the overall qualifying standings, top three players from the combined standings of squads 1-8 (places 39-41) and top 5 of squads 9-12 (places 42-46) who are not among the top 38, and top four players of the Desperado Squad (places 47-50) will advance to Sunday's finals.
Tie Rules (Qualifying)
In case of a tie in the qualifying, "the highest positioned player will be the player scoring the highest total of all counting qualification games minus the score of the lowest game. If a tie still exists, the highest positioned player will be the player with the highest total of all counting qualification games minus the score of the two lowest games, etc."

Tie Rules (Qualifying)
In case of a tie in the qualifying, "the highest positioned player will be the player scoring the highest total of all counting qualification games minus the score of the lowest game. If a tie still exists, the highest positioned player will be the player with the highest total of all counting qualification games minus the score of the two lowest games, etc."
