The reigning World Youth Masters champion and three-time EBT titlist had games of 279, 198, 253, 216, 299 and 245 for 1490, an average of 248.33, to overtake previous leader Ildemaro Ruiz Jr. (left) of Venezuela by mere three pins. The qualifying winner will receive a 750 Euro bonus.

Ruiz, who slipped to second place with 1487, survived a strong charge by Joonas Jehkinen (above right) of Finland in the Friday morning Squad 19. The Team world champion, who won his lone EBT title in the Track Dream-Bowl Palace Open in Munich, Germany, in 2013, fell three pins short with 1484, including high games of 289 and 279, good for third place in the overall qualifying standings.

Persson Planefors rebounded from a slow start (194, 214) with 258, 269, 253 and 237 for 1425 scratch, an average of 237.50, and added 48 pins women's handicap, to leap into fourth place. The top two women in qualifying (before Desperado Squad) will earn 750 and 500 Euro bonuses, respectively.

John Wells (right) of England was just 13 pins behind Persson Planefors to move into fifth place with 1460 after finishing his set with 290.

Fresh off his victory in the 24th Malta Open Championships, Ramon Hilferink (right) of Netherlands led Squad 22 on Friday night with 1399 to position himself in 16th place.

Hilferink, who had six games between 217 and 266, will receive one bye for the finals if he finished qualifying in 11th to 20th place. The top 10 will bypass the first two rounds.

With eight more squads to go on Saturday, the score to make the qualifying cut in 38th place has surpassed the 1300-mark. One-time EBT champion Marek Talpa, Czech Republic, is the man "on the bubble" with 1324 or an average of 220.67.

Qualifying continues on Saturday, July 4, with Squads 23-26 scheduled to start at 9 a.m., 1, 5 and 9 p.m. Central European Summer Time and concludes with the one-game Desperado Squad expected to start 30 minutes past Midnight.

Total 50 players will qualify for the finals on Sunday, July 5 - the top 38 players from the overall qualifying standings, the top three players from the combined standings of squads 1-8 and the top 5 of squads 9-12 who are not among the top 38, and the top four players of the Desperado Squad. The top 10 qualifiers will receive two byes while qualifiers 11-20 will get a first-round bye.

The top 3 with the highest eight-game total will advance to the stepladder finals. The No. 2 and 3 seeds open the action with a one-game shootout match. The winner goes against the No. 1 seed for the title and 6.000 Euro first prize.

2015EBTLogo_small.jpg The 2015 European Bowling Tour currently consists of 17 tournaments in 13 countries featuring three "Platinum" events, three "Gold", three "Silver" and eight "Satellite" events. All 17 tournaments together offer total prize fund of 870.000 Euro or 966.250 U.S. Dollar.
