Chris Barnes survives eliminator finals to win 17th Samho Korea Cup

    2015KoreaCupChrisBarnes3.jpg2015KoreaCupJungTaewha.jpgChris Barnes (pictured above and left), United States, won another major international title in his illustrious career when he flew past Jung Taewha (right), Korea, in the last eliminator round, 249-183, to win the 17th Samho Korea Cup International Bowling Tournament Sunday, Sept. 6, at Hogye Gymnaium in Anyang City, South Korea.

    The KPBA and JPBA event offered total prize fund of 110.000.000 Korean Won or approximately 91,345 U.S. Dollar.

    The 18-time PBA champion, whose last two titles came in the H.H. Emir Cup 2014 in Doha, Qatar, and in the 2015 DHC PBA Japan Invitational in Tokyo, Japan, received the top prize of 30.000.000 Korean Won currently $24,910.

    2015KoreaCupChrisBarnes4.jpg2015KoreaCupJungTaewha2.jpgBarnes (left), who bowled a clean game, took the lead in the title match when he doubled in the fourth and fifth frame and Jung opened in the fourth frame failing to convert a 4 pin.

    Jung (right) narrowed the gap with a double but a 7-10 split in the seventh frame sealed his fate.

    Barnes closed the match with six consecutive strikes to shut out the Korean and to cruise to the title.

    The top four players met in Sunday's eliminator finals, bowling concurrently in the first game. The player with the lowest game was eliminated. The three survivors bowled a second game, with another player eliminated. The two survivors then bowled for the title and a $24,910 first prize.

    2015KoreaCupJoNamyi2.jpg2015KoreaCupOskuPalermaa2.jpgBoth Barnes and Jung advanced to the title match by being the top two scorers in the second eliminator round. Jung led with 246, Barnes was second with 238 and Jo Namyi (left) of Korea was eliminated with 223.

    Jo started the opening round of the eliminator finals with twelve consecutive strikes to easily win the round. Barnes (246) and Jung (236) also advanced, while Finland's two-hander, Osku Palermaa (right; 221) was eliminated.

    Jung earned $12,455 for second place, Jo got $6,645 for third place and Palermaa took home $4,150 for fourth place.
