Thomas Gross (pictured above) of Austria, a four-time European Bowling Tour champion and the tournament director of the 13th Columbia 300 Vienna Open, continued to lead the qualifying after the conclusion of squads 3 & 4 Tuesday at Plus Bowling in Vienna, Austria.

Gross, who won the 2009 Vienna Open, averaged 235.33 in the first of 16 squads on Monday to lead the 112-player field from nine countries with 1412 six-game total.

2015EBT14JaroslavLorenc2.jpgJiri Hindrak, Czech Republic, remained in second place with 1354 and an average of 225.67. Hindrak's fellow countryman, Jaroslav Lorenc (right), beat out Finland's Perttu Jussila for the top spot in Squad 3 by just one pin, 1341 to 1340.

By virtue of leading one of the first eight squads, Lorenc will earn an automatic berth into Sunday's finals in case he will not finish in the top 52. If his 1341 total will be good enough to finish in the top 52, the automatic spot goes to the next qualifier in order.

2015EBT14PerttuJussila.jpgLorenc used games of 222, 212, 217, 226, 256 and 208 to move into third place in the overall standings. Jussila (left), gold medalist with the Finnish five-man team at the 2013 World Championships, rolled games of 214, 276, 203, 226, 202 and 219 on his way to fourth place.

2015EBT14RomanFurbacher.jpgSquad 2 leader Roman Fürbacher (right), Austria, slipped to fifth place with 1335 and is followed by his compatriots Alexander Rauscher and Michael Loos.

Rauscher led Squad 4 on Tuesday evening with 1321, including a 280 game, the highest game of the tournament so far, to leap into sixth place. Loos was third in Squad 3 with 1304, also including a 280 game, to overtake seventh place.

Rounding out the top 8, who will bypass the first round of the finals, is currently Karel Kutina, Czech Republic, with 1304 or an average of 217.33. In case of a tie in the qualifying, "the highest positioned player will be the player scoring the highest total of all counting qualification games minus the score of the lowest game".
