Finland's Joonas Jähi wins qualifying at 13th Columbia 300 Vienna Open

Joonas Jähi (pictured left) of Finland remained unchallenged in the 16th and last qualifying squad at the 13th Columbia 300 Vienna Open to lead 64 out of 263 players from 26 countries, 68 women and 195 men, into Sunday's finals which are being broadcast live on Bowlingdigital's YouTube channel.
Jähi led the field since Squad 7 with 1473 and an average of 245.50. He posted the first of five 300 games in qualifying. Jenny Wegner, Sweden; Thomas Larsen; Stuart Williams and John Wells, England, had the others.
Michael Loos was the top Austrian bowler in second place with 1463 and was followed by Francois Louw of South Africa with 1458 and Thomas Larsen with 1453. 16-time PBA champion Tommy Jones (above right), United States, was fifth with 1449.

Pasi Uotila (left) of Finland made the first cut in sixth place on 1445 with Stuart Williams of England in seventh place on 1422. Rounding out the top 8, who receive a first-round bye in the finals, was 2009 Vienna Open champion Thomas Gross, Austria, with 1412 or an average of 235.33.
Jenny Wegner (right), who rolled only the second 300 game by a woman in the 13-year history of the popular event, was the best of 67 women and one of 16 women, who advanced to the finals with 1401 including eight games handicap for each game but the 300.

Three players from the 16th and final qualifying squad moved into the top 52. Elliot Crosby of England led the squad with 1357, an average of 226.17, to leap into 32nd place. In his seventh attempt, Daniel Fransson of Sweden (pictured above, l-r), toppled 1339 pins to take 43rd place.
Philippe Huber of Switzerland finished with 1322, good for 49th place overall. World champion in Trios, Carsten Warming Hansen (right) of Denmark, took the 52nd and last spot to advance from the qualifying leaderboard with 1313 total and an average of 218.83.

Total 64 players advance to the finals on Sunday, Oct. 4, including the top 52 players from the overall qualifying standings, the highest-positioned player from each of the first eight squads, who did not finish in the top 52 (total 8 players) and the top 4 players of the Desperado Squad. The top 8 qualifying leaders receive a first-round bye, while the other 56 finalists bowl six games scratch starting a 8 a.m. on early Sunday morning The top 22 join the top 8 qualifiers in Round Two.
Those 30 players bowl another six games scratch after which the field is trimmed to the top 18, who carry the pinfall forward into Round Three. After another six-game block the top 4 players with the highest 12-game total advance to the stepladder finals.
The No. 4 seed meets the No. 3 in the opening match and the winner takes on the No. 2 seed for the right to bowl the top seed for the title, the 7.000 Euro top prize and 150 European Bowling Tour ranking points (men and women in separate rankings).
The 13th Columbia 300 Vienna Open is the 14th tournament on the 2015 European Bowling Tour and the last of just three EBT "gold" events this season, the second-highest of the four EBT tournament categories.
The VO 2015 will be held from Sept. 28 - Oct. 4 at Plus Bowling, a 32-laner in Vienna, Austria. Players will compete for total prize fund of 73.130 Euro - 62.900 € in Singles and 10.230 € in Doubles.
For the 13th consecutive year, Bowlingdigital.com will provide onsite coverage of the 13th Columbia 300 Vienna Open commencing Thursday, Oct. 1, all the way through to the stepladder finals on Sunday afternoon, Oct. 4. All qualifying squads on Oct. 2 & 3 and Sunday's finals are being broadcast live on Bowlingdigital's YouTube channel.
The singles champion will take home the 7.000 € top prize, the first runner-up earns 5.000 € and the third and fourth-place finishers get 3.500 € and 2.500 €, respectively. 64 players will cash in Singles, which has a last-to-cash payout of €. The Doubles tournament will pay a 1.600 € first prize and a 20-place prize list (300 € last-to-cash).

The 2015 European Bowling Tour currently consists of 16 tournaments in 12 countries featuring three "Platinum" events, three "Gold", three "Silver" and seven "Satellite" events. All 16 tournaments together offer total prize fund of 850.000 Euro.
The top 50 men and the top 50 women in each event receive ranking points. Those points will be tabulated throughout the season to determine the top 12 men and top 12 women, who will compete in the 9th EBT Masters July 25, 2016 at Rose'n Bowl in Serravalle, San Marino following the 12th San Marino Open.
