United States Bowling Congress Hall of Famer Tish Johnson of Colorado Springs, Colorado, averaged more than 230 during her second block of qualifying at the USBC Senior Queens and leads after two rounds at The Orleans Bowling Center in Las Vegas.

The left-hander (pictured above) was fourth after the first five-game block Tuesday, but surged to the top of the 70-player field with a 1,152 total during the second block, giving her a 10-game total of 2,222.

2015USBCSQRobinRomeo2.jpg Two-time defending Senior Queens champion and fellow hall of famer Robin Romeo (right) of Newhall, California, sits in second place with 2,187. Barbara Batt of Jacksonville, Florida, is third with 2,155, while Sharon Powers of Lakewood, Colorado, and Sharon Aronson of Turlock, California, round out the top five with 2,124 and 2,115, respectively.

"The first squad, I threw the ball really, really well, but I just didn't score very well," said Johnson, who also is a Professional Women's Bowling Association Hall of Famer.

"I left a lot in the back row, so during the break, I said I had to make a carry adjustment. I switched to something a little smoother through the front and mid-part of the lane to be able to parallel a little bit more. I'm going to try the same game plan tomorrow and see what happens."

Johnson has found continued success at the Senior Queens, but still is searching for her first win at the event. She has made the stepladder finals in each of the last four years and finished as the runner-up in 2013, 2014 and 2015.

"I want to win this," Johnson said. "I've been leading the senior events that I've been bowling but keep finishing second, so something's got to turn around and come my way."

2016USBCSeniorQueensLogo.jpgAll competitors will return to the lanes Wednesday morning at 11 a.m. Eastern for five additional games of qualifying before the field is cut to the top 31 players, plus Romeo, for the double-elimination match-play bracket, which will have its opening rounds Wednesday.

Bracket play will continue Thursday until only five players remain for the stepladder finals, scheduled to begin at 9:30 p.m. Eastern. All rounds of the 2016 Senior Queens are being broadcast live on BOWL.com's BowlTV.
