Öhman and Banks take lead in European Champions Cup after Day One

Defending champion Anders Öhman from Sweden and two-time European gold medalist Fiona Banks, England, took the lead in the European Champions Cup after the first 8-game block on the short oil pattern.
Öhman felled 1862 pins over eight games and averaged 232,75 to lead the 39-player field of the men's division by 10 pins. English ranking leader Dominic Barrett was second with 1852, with World Youth Masters champion Mads Sandbækken, Norway, in third at 1787.
On the women's side, Banks led the 36-player field with 1726 pinfall total and an average of 215,75. Trailing Banks by 14 pins to sit in the place was Natassa Rovithaki (left), Greece with 1712. Two-time defending champion Tanya Petty (right), Germany, was third at 1706.
All players return on Thursday for the second block on the long oil pattern.
