Barrett and van der Tol move to the top in European Champions Cup after Day Two

    English ranking leader Dominic Barrett and Dutch international Ghislaine van der Tol overtook the lead in the European Champions Cup in Riga, Latvia, after the second six-game block on long oil.

    2006EBT15DominicBarrett.jpg Barrett (left) posted a 1701-series to move up one spot into and to take the lead in the men's division with 3554 16-game total and an average of 222,13. World Youth Masters champion Mads Sandbækken, Norway, had 2006ECCDimitriosKaretsos_small.jpg 1759 to sit eight pins behind in second place with 3546. Defending champion Anders Öhman, Sweden, managed only 1615 and slipped to third place with 3477. Dimitrios Karetsos (right), Greece, posted the field-best 1767-series to leap into fifth place.

    2006ECCGhislainevanderTol.jpg Van der Tol (left) felled 1701 pins, the sole 1700-plus series in the women's division, to jump from fourth to first place with 3380 pinfall total and an average of 211,25. Two-time 2006ECCTanyaPetty.jpg defending champion Tanya Petty (right), Germany, leaped one spot into second place with 3356 behind a 1650-series today. First-round leader Fiona Banks, England, slipped to third after a sub-par 1591-set today.

    All players return on Friday for the third and final qualifying block on dual lane condition to cut to the top 8 for the single-elimination best-of-three games finals.
