George Frilingos and Clair Johnston won the final event of the 2005 Australian Super Six series, the South Pacific Classic in Melbourne en route to qualify for the 2005 QubicaAMF Bowling World Cup in Slovenia.

Frilingos led the top eight men into finals with a 229 average over 22 games. For the first time in the SPC history the finals were best-of-three games single elimination finals, the same format as in the World Cup.

Among the qualifiers were Jason Belmonte, who finished fifth in last year's World Cup in Singapore after dominating the qualifying, and Jason Trotter, who started the 2002 edition in Riga with an 896 three-game set (300-298-298) and also finished fifth.

Frilingos topped No. 8 seed Glen Loader in the quarterfinal then eliminated Trotter in two games in the semi-final to meet No. 5 seed Jason Walsh in the title match. Walsh topped Carl Bottomley in the opening match, 2-0, then sidelined Belmonte in the semis, also 2-0.

The championship match went the distance as Frilingos, the 2004 Super Six point ranking leader, took the first game, 216-210, but lost the second to Walsh 187-213. In the decisive match, Frilingos put on a show to cruise to victory with 268-208.

Sue Cassell took the top seed for the women's final's with 213,64 over 22 games, followed by former professionals Maxine Nable, the 1998 World Cup champion from Kobe, Japan, and Carol Gianotti, who won last year's SPC but was ineligible due to her "Pro Bowler" status.

All seven matches in the women's final went in a quick 2-0. Cassell was the only player of the top 3 who survived the first round as both Nable and Gianotti were stunned by underdogs Rebecca Robinson and Clair Johnston.

Johnston used the momentum and defeated Robinson in a close semifinal match to face Cassie Staudinger, who eliminated Cassell, in the title match. Johnston easily won the first 218-158 and took the second 194-183 to seal the victory.
