Barrett/Thornton win PTBC Matchplay Doubles

    Glover and Wells win the rankings

    2007BTE02BarrettThornton.jpg L-R Two-time English ranking leader Dominic Barrett teamed with former World Games Mixed Doubles champion Steve Thornton to win the PTBC Matchplay Doubles in Madison Heights, England, the second event on the 2007 Brunswick Team England ranking season. In the title match, Barrett rolled a 259 game and Thornton added 246 to fly past the duo Chris Snashall (192) and Damian Gray (215), 505-407.

    Mark_Wells_3270.jpg However, as usual in doubles, trios and team events on the BTE, the ranking points came from the individual qualifying results. Mark Wells (r.) dominated the 82-player men's field with 1914 eight-game total and an average of 239.25 including high games of 284 and 289 to earn the maximum of 120 ranking points. Barrett received 95 points for his fourth-place finish (1814/226.75), while Thornton got 45 points for 30th place (1674/209.25).

    2006EBT15ZaraGlover_small.jpg On the women's side, the No. 2 in the 2006 European Bowling Tour rankings, Zara Glover (l.) led the 20-player field with 1712 pinfall total and an average of 219.00 including high games of 244 and 232.

    Glover and team mate Matt Giles fell to Snashall/Gray in the quarterfinal, 482-424. Wells and his partner Ian Runnaches were eliminated in the same round by Kirsten Penny and Wayne Greenall in a close match, 446-440. Women received five pins handicap each game.
