20067USBCWomensChampionshipLogo.jpg A career-high series that moved an Akron, Ohio bowler into first place in Division 4 Singles, highlighted several standings changes at the 2007 United States Bowling Congress Women's Championships.

Connie Parson of Akron, participating in her first Women's Championships with a 129 average, vaulted to the top in Division 4 Singles (130 and under) after posting a 589 series. Parson rolled games of 223, 180 and 186 to take first place by 35 pins.

Parson, who has recently returned to competitive bowling after taking some time off said she waited to see tournament officials post her scores to make sure her performance was for real.

"Everything just went smoothly for me when I was bowling singles," Parson said. "The whole time I was bowling that series, I was thinking to myself, you have got to be kidding."

Parson, who has competed regularly in city and state tournaments was convinced by her teammates that she should give the Women's Championships a try this year.

"It was just a great experience," Parson said. "I still can't believe it."

Parson also moved into fourth place in Division 4 All-events with a score of 1,451 after a team series of 423 and a doubles series of 439 to go along with her 589 in singles.

Parson admitted she would be keeping a close watch on the leaderboard until the conclusion of the championships, July 2. "I realize there will be thousands more to compete, but right now, I am loving life and enjoying the moment," she said.

Other lead changes at the Women's Championships included We're Back of Rockingham, N.C., which moved into the Division 4 Team lead with 2,181. We're Back bettered the previous high score by 91 pins to move into first place.
