American Zone delegates decide name change and new statues

During the special American Zone conference held on May 26th in conjunction with the Men's American Zone Championships in Guatemala City, Guatemala, the delegates have decided on a name change. As of July 1, the American Zone will be renamed to "Pan American Bowling Confederation" (PABCON).
PABCON President Jose Guandique from El Salvador (pictured) was more than happy with the event. "We had a very good championship in Guatemala with 18 countries participating in competition and 21 in presence and a very successful conference. I'm very happy with the complete union of the American countries. Everybody is working together for the good of our sport.
"The American Zone will remain a part of the FIQ/WTBA but our organization with 27 member federations will now have its own identity."
The conference also adopted new statutes and decided on several other changes in the zone. "We are preparing the final version of the new statutes and they will be published soon." Guandique added.
The delegates added another division to its Youth Championships. There will be an "Under 16" and an "Under 20" division.
They've also added a Tournament of Champions which will serve as qualifier (for the country) for the World Games.
Finally the men and women's championships calendar for the years 2008 through 2018 was revised. There will be women's and men's championships every four years and a joint championship in the year prior to the quadrennial Pan American Games. There will be no championship held in the year of the Pan Am Games.

The final international event for the American Zone Bowling Federation is the South American Bowling Clubs Championship to held in Rio de Janeiro, June 17-24) at Barra Bowling Center, the same center that will host the 2007 Pan Am Games bowling event.
The "XV Pan American Sports Games - Rio 2007" will be the first international event for the Pan American Bowling Confederation (PABCON) and will run from July 13-29 (bowling competition from July 22 to 26).
Another highlight will be the Women's World Championships at Bol Obispado in Monterrey, Mexico, from August 30 through September 9, 2007.
