Marcelo Suartz and Roseli Santos won the XVI Brazil Open Cup QubicaAMF 2007 at Dragon Bowling Center Lanes in Sao Paulo, Brazil and will represent Brazil in the 43rd QubicaAMF Bowling World Cup in St. Petersburg, Russia, from November 3-11, 2007. The Brazilian World Cup qualifier was organized by Andreia Cintra of Pin1 Bowling Supply.

Suartz and Santos led the men's and women's division after 18 games with 209.17 and 196.28 average, respectively, en route to earn the No. 1 seed for the five-player stepladder finals; a huge advantage as the No. 1 seed must be defeated twice to win the title.

2007BRAMarceloSuartz.jpg 2007BRAMarioFarias.jpg Suartz (pictured left) was able to weather a strong charge by Mario Farias, who came from behind and almost won the title.

Farias (right), who moved into the top 5 in the final qualifying game, defeated Rodrigo Hermes, silver medalist in the Pan Am Games 2007, and Hiro Shigenaga in the opening shoot-out match, 214-187-152.

He then eliminated Brazilian veteran Marcio Vieira, owner of the Casa Bowling Center Lanes, 191-166, to earn the right to bowl Suartz for the title. Farias flew past Suartz in the first game of final, 248-177, to force a decisive game.

19-year-old Suartz, who recently rolled a perfect game in the United States, took full advantage and stopped Farias' run, 174-158, to win the title and the ticket to St. Petersburg.

2007BRARoseliSantos.jpg Suartz mother Marina Suartz, who represented Brazil in the 2000 World Cup 2000 in Lisbon, Portugal, had a chance to join her son in Russia, but fell to Stephanie Martins and Suzilene Ivata in the opening match, 198-180-171. Second-seeded Roberta Rodrigues sent Martins packing, 225-152, to meet Roseli Santos in the title match.

Santos (pictured left), 43, who represented her country in the Pan Am Games last month, had dominated the women's division and made quick work of her opponent, 214-164, to wrap up the title and to secure her spot in the 43rd QubicaAMF Bowling World Cup.
