Australia sweeps Doubles titles in 14th Asian Youth Tenpin Bowling Championships

    Second sweep in as many events in the 14th Asian Youth Tenpin Bowling Championships at the Holiday Inn Lido Beijing in Beijing, China. After Chinese Taipei won both gold medals in Singles, Australia accomplished the feat in Doubles as Benjamin Coupland/Stephen Cowland and Cassie Staudinger/Bianca Flanagan captured the titles in the Boys and Girls Division.

    Coupland led all competitors - boys and girls - with 1338 six-game pinfall and Cowland added 1188 to win the gold medal with 2526 pinfall total and an average of 210.50. Trailing the champions by 27 pins to earn the silver medal were Mohammad Al-Zaidam/Khaled Al-Dubyyan of Kuwait with 2499 (2499). Malaysians Adrian Ang/Aaron Kong took the bronze with 2464 (205.33).

    Staudinger (1229) and Flanagan (1248) combined for 2477 pinfall total, an average of 206.42 to follow in the footprints of their teammates and to earn the gold medal in the Girls Doubles competition.

    South Korea's Hwang Sun Ok and Yoo Sung Hee, who had the highest girls' series of 1304, and China's Chen Dongdong and Wu Suqin tied at 2443 (203.58) to share the silver medal.

    The 14th Asian Youth Championships will continue with the four-player team event on Sunday and Monday.
