Wu Suqin (l.), China, and Hung Kun Yi (r.), Chinese Taipei, claimed the Girls and Boys Masters titles to end the 14th Asian Youth Tenpin Bowling Championships at the Holiday Inn Lido bowling center in Beijing, China.

Both players took different routes to the gold medal. After leading the girls and boys division after the first eight games of round robin match play, Suqin maintained her lead in the second block to earn the girls' No. 1 seed, while Hung almost slipped out of the stepladder finals and secured the third and last spot for the boys' finals.

Suqin had to sit and wait until Zatil Iman, Malaysia, the No. 2 seed, had defeated Yun Hee Yeo, Korea, seeded third, by the closest possible margin, 193-192, en route to advance to the title match over two games total pinfall.

Suqin took a 24-pin lead with a 223-199 victory in game #1 and never looked back. The crowd's favorite won the second game by two pins, 215-213, to claim the Girls Masters title with 438-412.

On the boys' side, Hung faced No. 2 seeded Adrian Ang, Malaysia, in the opening match. Ang, who won all of his eight matches on Wednesday morning, fell to the spinner from Chinese Taipei, 199-190.

Hung carried the momentum into the title match against top-seeded Choi Bok Eum, Korea, as he rolled two games over 220 to easily win the Boys Masters title. Hung topped the Korean lefty, 227-215 and flew past his opponent in game #2, 222-170, to claim the gold medal with 449-382 pinfall total. L-R Choi, champion Hung and Ang.

Girls' overnight leader Suqin maintained her lead on Day Two of Round Robin Match Play with a 1616 series in the second 8-game block on Wednesday winning four of her eight matches. She finished with 3445 including a 3345 16-game total, an average of 215.31, and a 10-6 won-loss record (10 pins bonus per win).

Zatil Iman, Malaysia, won six matches and felled 1689 pins to move from third to second place with 3429 (214.31) including 100 bonus. Yun Hee Yeo, Korea, slipped one place but secured the third and final spot fort he stepladder finals with 3379 (211.19/10-6).

Chen Dongdong, China, who started the day in 13th place, posted the field-best 1739 series and won all eight matches today. However after a 1491 series yesterday, Dongdong had to settle for fourth place missing the finals by 39 pins despite he best W-L record of 11-5 with 3340 total.

All Events champion Siti Safiyah Amirah, Malaysia, ended up in 16th place with 2996 (187.25/5-11).

On the boys' side, Choi, who started the day in second place, improved one spot behind a 1752 series and a 6-2 match play record. The lefty, a member of the adult national team and winner of the silver medal in Trios in 2005, totaled 3505 pins, a 219.00 average, including 110 pins bonus.

Adrian Ang, Malaysia, leaped two spots after winning all his all games on Wednesday en route to tie Choi for the day with 1752 pinfall total. Ang compiled the field-best 12-4 won-loss record en route to take the No. 2 seed with 3496 pinfall total.

Day One leader Hung Kun Yi, Chinese Taipei, slipped to spots but secured the third and final post for the stepladder with 3488 total and an 11-5 match play record. Tomoyuki Sasaki, Japan, posted the highest series of the day with 1784 but fell 36 pins short to settle for fourth place with 3452 (10-6).

All Events champion Bader Al Shaikh, Saudi Arabia, won only two matches on the second day and landed in 9th position with 3166 (5-11).

Girls' All Events silver medalist Suqin averaged 216.13 and compiled the field-best 6-2 match play record (10 pins bonus per win) to lead the top 16 girls with 1789 pinfall total. Yun Hee Yeo, Korea, is second with 1710 (5-3), while Zatil Iman, Malaysia, sits in third position with 1680. Her team mate, All Events champion Siti Safiyah Amirah is practically out of the race fort he medals as she finished the first block in 15th place with 1467 (2-6) and an average of 180.88, trailing Iman by 213 pins.

Hung dominated the Boys division and outaveraged his nearest competitor, Choi Bok Eum of Korea, by more than 15 pins. Hung started with a 268 game and won all but one of his eight matches to finish with 1838 pinfall total and an average of 221.00.

Choi is 145 pins behind in second place with 1693 and a 5-3 won-loss record. Third place belongs to Jose Collins Philippines, with 1675 (6-2). Boys All Events champion Bader Al Shaikh, Saudi Arabia, sits in 8th place with 1588 (3-5), 87 pins off the pace for the medals.

The 16 boys and the 16 girls will return on Wednesday for the second and final 8-game block to cut to the top three players who will determine the champions in a stepladder final.
