2007BWCLogo_small.jpg Ildemaro Ruiz and Gilant González won the Venezuelan World Cup Qualifier and will represent their country in the 2007 Qubica AMF World Cup in St Petersburg, Russia, from November 3 to 11, 2007.

The men's and women's champions were decided in best-of-three games single elimination finals.

In the men's title match, Ruiz, a national team member since 2006 and the winner of the silver medal in the 2006 Central American Games, defeated Raindey Chávez, two-games-to-one. Ruiz flew past his opponent in the first game, 267-195, but Chávez leveld the match with a 211-189 win in game two.

The deciding third game was by far the lowest-scoring match of the high scoring finals. Ruiz escaped with a 168-144 victory to secure his ticket to Russia. Hopefully the Venezuelans will be treated nicer in Russia than the Russians in last year's World Cup in Venezuela, where a member of the Russian delegation was robbed in the streets of Caracas on the first day.

Luis Monroy set the highlight in the men's final when he rolled a 300-game in the second game of his quarterfinal match against Chávez. Chávez, however, eliminated Monroy in the decider, 206-170.

Gilant González will have her first official appearance for Venezuela in Russia. She went the distance in all three matches but was only down 1-0 once, in the title match against Nardy Del Biondo.

Biondo won game #1 by one pin, 236-235, but González rebounded with a two-pin victory in game #2, 246-244, to force a deciding third game. The youngster flew past the more experienced national team member and cruised to victory, 258-183. González three-game total in the finale was 739.
