2007EBT17IngunnOien.jpg The Swedish national team member advanced to the semi-finals as the No. 4 seed to meet top-seeded Ingunn Øien.

Øien (right), who won the European Champions Cup last months. could not carry the momentum from rounds four and five, where she averaged over 250 scratch, into the semis.

2007EBT17MadsSandbakken.jpg She rolled eight strikes against Karlsson but two open frames in the 1st and 5th made the difference. The Swede had a double and a turkey and stayed clean throughout the game to advance to the finals, 226 to 219 (including 8 pins handicap).

2007EBT17SveinRogerOlson2.jpg In the other semi-final, Norwegian national team members Mads Sandbækken (left), the winner of the Masters titles in the 2006 World Youth Championships and the 2007 (adult) European Championships, and Svein Roger Olsen (right), a Veitvet Bowling Center employee, battled it out for the other spot in the finals.

Both players started with a strike fest, Olsen had the front three and 9-spare and Sandbækken countered with four in a row, 9-spare. When Olsen suffered a 7-10 pocket split in the fifth frame, the match was practically over. Sandbækken went off the sheet for a 279-236 victory.

Both finalists started the title match with a split and a double. The Norwegian took a slim 7-pin lead after five frames when he added another double in the 5th and 6th frame. The defending champion remained cool and rebounded with a four-bagger in frames 6-9. Sandbækken was unable to strike again until the 10th frame. His turkey came too late and Karlsson, who needed a high count on the first ball in the 10th frame to win, fired a ball straight down and sealed the victory with a 5-10 split.

He spared and claimed his second consecutive victory in the Norwegian Open, 223-209, en route to receiving the 60.000 Kronor top prize, approx. 7.855 Euro. Sandbækken earned kr 35.000 for second place. Øien, who finished third as she was the higher seeded semi-final loser, won the women rankings and 20.000 Kronor. Olsen also received 20.000 Kronor for fourth.
