Thornton wins 2007 English rankings; Allsebrook and Glover tie for the ladies No. 1 spot

The Storm English Open at Lakeside Superbowl in Nuneaton was not only the final European ranking event but also the final Brunswick Team England ranking event of the season and brought joy for a few and some sadness for many reports Eric Hayton from British Go Tenpin Magazine.

First we'll start with the rules, very simple really. For Team England, qualified bowlers (i.e. BTBA card holders) must use their first entry of 6 games to gain ranking points in Nuneaton. Very straight forward … and the winners were Luke Hampshaw and Kirsten Penny.

For Luke this meant a place in the squad for next year for the first time. Many others in the men's division had a chance to make the squad - Matt Giles (who confirmed his place by finishing third behind Paul Moor), Matt Miller, Matt Chamberlain, Damian Gray, Sean Croke, Dan Stride, James Tidd and Mark Smith.

Chamberlain was the only other player to put in a good score straight off and he will finish 12th in the squad.

In the ladies, most places were already confirmed, the doubts were over Nikki Harvey making the squad, which she did with a third place finish, which put Kylie Wills in 12th and left Katie Jowsey 13th.

The top 12 bowlers plus qualified members from the top 10 of the EBT rankings that have played at least 5 BTE events in 2007 will also be invited to join the squad – these will be Paul Moor and Stuart Williams.
