Super Bowl in Canton, Mich. (April 10-July 6, 2008)

2008USBCWCMichelleStahl.jpg When Michelle Stahl came into the 2008 United States Bowling Congress Women's Championships she had a couple things on her mind, be competitive, bowl well and have fun.

Stahl did all of those things and a little bit more Tuesday morning at Super Bowl Lanes. She moved into first place in Division 1 Singles (170-189 average) with a 657 series.

"I bowled so bad in team and doubles I was just shooting for a 600," said Stahl, a 31-year-old who averages 183.

The Hillsborough, N.J., native bowled games of 191, 198 and 268. Stahl started her third game on a roll by firing eight strikes in a row, and she needed every little bit of that 268 to take first place by only four pins.

"I never looked at the standings before I came to bowl today. I've never placed before in the Women's Championships so I didn't think today would be the day," said Stahl, who competed in her fourth USBC Women's Championship. "I'm so shocked right now. After I was done bowling people started coming up to me and saying I took first place. It's just so hard to grasp it all right now."

The humble spoken Stahl will go back home and celebrate her accomplishment by watching the standings a day at a time.

"I came into the tournament to just have fun. Its not about the money, I just like to bowl," said Stahl. "Being in first is just an added bonus for me. I won't lie to you, I hope my score does hold up for the rest of the tournament."
