Colombian national team member and former PBA exempt bowler Andres Gomez, a USBC Silver level certified coach, has held a bronze level seminar at 'Bowlera Mampote' (pictured) in Caracas, Venezuela, from July 8-10.

"The clinic was a great success", told Gomez Bowlingdigital. "21 coaches from many different cities all over Venezuela took the opportunity to be part of the USBC International Coaching Program. I would like to thank Rafael Figueroa of Bowler's Pro Shop for making this possible."

Among those who received their certification as USBC Bronze level coach were longtime Venezuelan national team members Mariela Alarza and Ildemaro Ruiz.

"The 3-day seminar was held on and off the lanes and featured lane specs, equipment, start and release, strikes and spares, video taping, hand adjustments, waist and steps, mental game, ball motion, tempo, free swing, wrist positions, finish position, timing, ball dynamics, ball surfaces and adjustments, lane play, lane adjustments and USBC drills," Gomez said

Gomez (front row, third from the left), who held similar seminars in May in Ecuador and in June in Colombia, will take a break before heading to Spain, Costa Rica and Argentina for more seminars. Gomez will serve as Team Colombia head coach for the upcoming World Youth Championships in Orlando (live coverage on Bowlingdigital).

"I'm looking forward to keep on working with coaches in my region, expanding their skills and their knowledge about our sport," Gomez added.

Andres was one of the 21 international coaches, who received their USBC Silver Coach certification during an exclusive seminar hosted by the United States Bowling Congress in February 2008.

The class went through an extensive coaching program featuring USBC Silver Coaching Certification by USBC gold coach, master instructor and Junior Team USA head coach Rod Ross, USBC Bronze Instructor training by USBC's Rich Williams, David Garber and Bill Monce and the introduction of exclusive new coaching technologies developed by USBC by USBC Technical Director Neil Stremmel and USBC Research Engineer Paul Ridenour.

This USBC Silver Coaching Certification allows them to teach Bronze coaching conferences and certify new USBC coaches in their home countries and regions.

Andres' training is part of the USBC effort to create an international coach training program and bolster the strength of federations within bowling's world governing body, the Federation Internationale des Quilleurs (FIQ - bowling's world governing body).

All this is in line with the continued efforts of USBC to secure a spot for the sport of bowling in the Olympics.
