2008WYCRocioRestrepo_small.jpg 2008WYCParkMiRan.jpg Park Mi Ran from Korea defeated Rocio Restrepo, Colombia, 212-206, to claim the gold medal in Girls Singles on competition day one of the 10th World Youth Championships currently underway in Orlando, Florida.

The Korean followed in the footsteps of the Korean women's team which won five out of six medals in the Asian Championships in Hong Kong last week.

Restrepo, who bowled for Wichita University last year, could not put enough pressure on her opponent in the last frame. Needing a mark to win, Park easily spared a 4-pin to seal the victory.

2008WYCJasmineYeongNathan_small.jpg 2008WYCZatilIman_small.jpg Park topped Jasmine Yeong-Nathan (left), Singapore, in the semi-finals, 197-167, while Restrepo sidelined No. 1 seed, Zatil Iman, Malaysia, 208-170.

After the first two (Singles Girls and Boys) of six events which will be decided in one-game matches, the top seeds are 0-2 in this championship.

While boys leader Fredrik Tjernes, Norway, at least received a silver medal, Iman fell from first to third place. A huge disappointment for the young Malaysian, who led the six-game preliminaries since game two.
