Pesek wins sixth consecutive Bowling World Cup Qualifier in Hungary
09/26/08
Beatrix Pesek (pictured) and Bertalan Puskás won the Hungarian Bowling World Cup Qualifier last Sunday at Five X Bowling Center in Székesfehérvár. 13 women and 45 men battled it out to represent Hungary in the 44th QubicaAMF Bowling World Cup at Bol 300 in Hermosillo, Mexico from Nov. 7-15, 2008.
All players bowled 6 games after which the top 12 women and top 28 men advanced to the second round. After another 8 games the top four women and the top four men with the highest 14-game total moved to the stepladder finals.
No. 4 vs. No. 3, the winner vs. No. 2, and then the semifinal winner vs. the top seed. The opening round and the semifinal featured one-game matches, while the championship match was over two games with the winner determined by the highest pinfall total.
Both, Pesek and Puskás, led the field after the prelims to earn the No. 1 seed for the stepladder finals. Pesek, who hasn't lost in the BWC qualifier since 2003, rolled 185 and 189 to come back from a 5-pin deficit against second seeded Franciska Vajda to win her sixth consecutive berth into the BWC, 374-357.
Zoltán Skobrics, the No. 4 seed, earned the right to bowl Puskás for the title with 237 and 257 games in the first two matches. However, Puskás secured his first appearance in the Bowling World Cup with games of 234 and 230 and a 464 to 415 victory.
